Travel to remote Churchill, Manitoba for an experience like none other! We’ll witness and get an up close look at Beluga Whales in their habitat and although it is summertime, we may even see a Polar Bear or two! During this time the Churchill River is teeming with beluga whales who migrate into the warm shallow waters to give birth and feed on small fish. Known as the “canaries of the sea,” these friendly and inquisitive creatures will capture your heart as you enjoy their whale song by boat and zodiac. While on land, enjoy the view as the surrounding landscape erupts into colorful summer blooms. Exploring the Churchill Wildlife Management Area by Tundra Buggy, you will have the chance to see a multitude of northern wildlife. You might even have the opportunity to see the first of the summer polar bears as they begin their migration into the area. This unique summer experience will leave you in awe of the beauty of Canada’s northern summer!

 

Day 1 – Home to Winnipeg, MB

With excitement, we’ll be on the way to Winnipeg where we’ll check into our hotel and freshen up before an included welcome dinner.

Day 2 – Winnipeg to Churchill, MB

This morning we board our flight from Winnipeg to Churchill. Upon arrival in Churchill, we will be met by an Interpretive Guide and participate in a Churchill and surrounding area tour, exploring local and historical points of interest surrounding Churchill. Our tour includes such attractions as Cape Merry, Port of Churchill, and Manitoba Conservation’s Polar Bear Holding Facility (weather permitting). After lunch, we will enjoy visits to the Churchill Eskimo Museum, home to one of Canada’s finest collection of Inuit carvings, kayaks and artifacts. Then we explore the Parks Canada Interpretive Centre where we’ll learn about the history, culture and wildlife of the area.

Day 3 – Churchill

In the morning, we will board a Transport Canada approved vessel and view the thousands of beluga whales that migrate into the mouth of the Churchill River. Then, across the river, we’ll tour Fort Prince of Wales National Historic Site of Canada, the oldest most northernly stone fort in the country. This afternoon we will enjoy a dog-cart excursion hosted by a local resident and dog sledding expert. Have a chance to meet the team of friendly dogs, hear stories, and experience a mile long dog-cart ride through the northern boreal forest!

Day 4 – Churchill

After breakfast, we will be transferred to the Tundra Buggy® Launch for a full-day tundra buggy adventure. Meandering over a system of established trails, experience magnificent summer wildlife including caribou, arctic fox, and ptarmigan. We may even see a Polar Bear or two!

Day 5 – Churchill to Winnipeg, MB

The morning begins with a guided excursion into the beluga whale estuary in a zodiac. The zodiacs quickly move around the beluga whale estuary, allowing us to experience the largest beluga whale population in the world at surface level. Truly an amazing experience! After lunch we will have some free time to explore Churchill before being transferred to the Churchill airport for an evening flight to Winnipeg.

Day 6 – Winnipeg to Home

Enjoy our last meal together before our journey home begins. We’ll stop at the border for some duty-free shopping and then reminisce together about our exciting experiences of Churchill’s wildlife as well as its natural history, culture, cuisine, and its quaint like quirks.
