Canada’s Tradition of Grandeur

Day 1 – Home to Chicago
Today we depart for a beautiful fall foliage tour of French Canada.  We’ll enjoy lunch at an  R & J favorite restaurant along the way.   We will spend the night in Chicago.

Day 2 – Chicago to London
Today we make our way to London, Ontario for our overnight at the lovely Lamplighter Inn.

Day 3 – London to Toronto
Our destination today is Toronto, a vibrant sophisticated metropolis.  Take advantage of the great downtown entertainment location of our hotel.  Dinner this evening is atop the world’s tallest free standing structure, the CN Tower with great views.

Day 4 – Toronto
Sightsee this exciting city featuring  Toronto’s Theatre District, Harbourfront, and trendy Queen Street shopping district and the magnificent Casa Loma Mansion.  This afternoon is at leisure to pursue your own interests.  Walk along the waterfront shops, visit a museum or maybe a cruise on Lake Ontario.  This afternoon visit Niagara Falls and enjoy the sights, including the gorgeous floral clock.  An option for you is to cruise on the Maid of the Mist giving a close-up view of the falls.  This evening we’ll attend the hilarious performance of “Oh Canada.”

Day 5 – Toronto to Ottawa
Travel the MacDonald-Cartier Freeway to Kingston where the great St. Lawrence River opens into Lake Ontario.  A luncheon cruise on the St. Lawrence River is planned while you float through the lovely Thousand Islands with the striking contrasts of the blue water and lush green forested islands.  Arriving in Ottawa, Canada’s Capital, we’ll check into our beautiful hotel located in the heart of Ottawa.

Day 6 – Ottawa
Ottawa is a captivating city graced with grand boulevards, lovely gardens, and stately architecture.  Sightseeing includes views of Rideau Canal, the Parliament Buildings, City Hall, Rideau Hall, the Governor-General’s Home, National Research Center, and the Royal Canadian Mint.  Opportunity s given to visit the parliament and Eaton Center.  A special lunch is arranged at a local favorite restaurant.  The remainder of the day is free.

Day 7 – Ottawa to Mont Tremblant
Journey through the beautiful mountains featuring blue glacier lakes and dense colorful forests.  Descend upon charming Mont Tremblant Village surrounded by the Laurentian Mountains.  Your lodging is the grand Chateau Mont Tremblant nestled at the base of Mont Tremblant rising over 2,000 feet.  This evening you are free to choose from the many charming cafes and restaurants surrounding the hotel in the village.  Enjoy!

Day 8 – Mont Tremblant to Montreal
Scenery continues as we make our way to Montreal – Canada’s most cosmopolitan city.  See cobblestoned old Montreal, St Joseph’s Oratory, Mt. Royal, Place de Artes and Notre Dame Cathedral.  Dinner this evening is at the Le Festin du Gouverneur in Montreal’s Old Fort.  We’ll be the nobles whom maidens serve and minions entertain.

Day 9 – Montreal to Pointe-au-Pic
After breakfast at the hotel we motor into French Canada.  Skirt along the shores of the scenic St. Lawrence River through Trois Rivieres to breathtaking Montmorency Falls, reaching higher than Niagara Falls!  A special lunch is planned along the falls.  Your hotel is nestled in the heart of lovely Charlevoix County.  Your luxury French style hotel is the Le Manoir Richelieu, a chateau like resort towering over the beautiful St. Lawrence.

Day 10 – Pointe-au-Pic to Quebec City
A  soft adventure is in order this morning as we head to Baie St. Catherine and embark on a wonderful narrated cruise along the Saguenay Fjord boasting spectacular sheer rock cliffs and rushing waterfalls.  You may see joyful white, minke, fin and Beluga Whales playing in the fjord waters.  If lucky you may even see humpback and the mighty blue whales.  Our cruise ends in the lovely village of Tadoussac.  Lunch is served at a local favorite restaurant here in Tadoussac.  See Ste-Anne-De-Beaupre with a visit to the beautiful Basilica and Memorial Shrine, which attracts over a million pilgrims per year.  Your hotel is the deluxe world renowned Chateau Frontenac within the walls of the old city.  You are steps from boutiques, cafes, attractions, and the famous 17th century walled Old Quebec.  Enjoy a  2 night stay here.

Day 11 – Quebec City
A local expert guide joins us as we sightsee this romantic and medieval city.  Experience “Uppertown” as it overlooks the narrow, steep cobblestone streets of “Lowertown” bordering the riverfront.  See the Citadel, the home of the Royal 22nd Regiment.  Stop to admire the view from the Plains of Abraham.  Choose your lunch stop and enjoy some free time to stroll the old cobbled street and do some browsing.  A special dinner is at a delightful restaurant in a restored 17th-century flour mill on the lovely Island of Ill d’ Orleans.

Day 12 – Quebec City to Saranac Lake
After breakfast we make our way out of Canada through the Adirondack Mountains before descending upon breathtaking ake Placid perfectly nestled in these stunning mountains.  This unique village was the home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics.  See many of the homes and estates of this resort community.  This evening stay in the charming village of Saranac.

Day 13 – Saranac to Erie
We’ll motor our way through beautiful New York State with lunch and coffee breaks along the way.  Our home for the evening will be in Erie, Pennsylvania, set along the shores of Lake Erie.

Day 14 – Erie to Chicago
After a light breakfast we continue to the Chicago area for our last overnight stay.  Enjoy a  farewell dinner before returning home.
