Day 1 – Home to LaCrosse, WI
Climb aboard the motor coach and settle in as we head down a country road to the beautiful rolling hills of southwest Wisconsin. We barely get going before our first stop at Freedom Park – the Great River Road Visitor Center. After an included lunch at Nelson Cheese Factory, we will journey to the National Eagle Center located along the banks of the Mississippi River in Wabasha, Minnesota. We will learn about eagles, stand face-to-face with a live eagle, and watch wild eagles soar above their observation deck. We will make one more stop at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum before arriving at our hotel for the next 3 nights. After an included supper, you can settle in and get ready for another great day tomorrow.

Day 2 – LaCrosse
Enjoy a leisurely morning at the hotel, including a hearty breakfast. Later this morning we will board the LaCrosse Queen Paddlewheel Boat for a ride on the Mississippi and a delicious lunch. This afternoon, we will be joined by a local step-on guide who will give us an in-depth historical tour of the LaCrosse area, including stops at many of the most popular sites in town. We will visit Granddad Bluff and get a “behind the scenes” tour of the Hixon House. An included coffee stop at a local shop will satisfy our afternoon snack cravings. This evening, enjoy dinner on your own and some shopping in downtown LaCrosse.

Day 3 – LaCrosse
Enjoy a delicious hot breakfast at the hotel this morning before we take a scenic drive along the Mississippi River to “Down A Country Road” Amish experience and tour of Wisconsin’s largest Old Order Amish Community. We’ll get to know the Amish up close and personal through a guided narrated tour of their community and have an opportunity to purchase Amish goods such as jams, cheese, woodworks, blankets, etc. After an included lunch, we will visit Norskedalen Nature and Heritage Center. Tour the homestead and visit with many dedicated docents who love sharing their knowledge of the grounds and the history of Norwegian immigration to the area. Enjoy a delicious dinner at Piggy’s Restaurant on the banks of the Mississippi River.

Day 4 – LaCrosse to Madison, WI
After breakfast we will venture south a bit to the Villa Louis Historic Site and tour Wisconsin’s premier Victorian country estate. This 25 acre site will take us back in time, reminding us of the first river travelers, the fur traders. We will also learn about the only battle of the War of 1812 that took place in Wisconsin right on this property. Then we will have lunch on our own before we get to Fennimore, Wisconsin. A variety of stops in this sweet country town will give us a taste of country life. Take a glimpse into the past at the Fennimore Doll and Toy Museum and the Railroad Historical Society Museum. Grab an afternoon ice cream treat at Carr Valley Cheese Store, or wait a bit for over 12 different delicious popcorn samples at Rural Route Popcorn. We then make our way to Madison for a relaxing evening with an included dinner at our hotel.

Day 5 – Madison to Home
We have one more treat in store for you today before we head home. “All Aboard!” The Mid-Continent Railway Museum is an outdoor, living museum and operating railroad recreating the small town/short line way of life during the “Golden Age of Railroading,” with operating trains, educational exhibits, and displays of restored rolling stock. We will have some time to tour the grounds and museum before boarding the train for a 55 minute round trip ride. Then we will grab lunch in Lake Delton, Wisconsin before we return to Minnesota. This afternoon, we can relax and reminisce about our wonderful country roads tour.
