This morning after breakfast, our very own local guide, who will guide us to all the hidden gems & treasures, will join us for the next five days! First, we’ll be taken to the Wizard of Oz Museum, home to exclusive exhibits featuring the unimaginable, from the earliest Baum books and OZ Parker Brothers board games to today’s collectibles. After an included lunch, we’ll explore the Cosmosphere which has the second largest display, exhibit, and collection of U.S. and Soviet Space Vehicles and artifacts. We’re treated to a guided tour and a movie in their two-story dome – with its amazing 4K digital projection system that creates a theater experience so vivid, we’ll feel like we’re part of the action! Then we’ll check into our hotel for the next two nights before dinner is served in the heart of Amish Country at Carriage Crossing Restaurant, which has been featured in Midwest Living and Taste of Home magazines!

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Hotel: Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express (2 Nights)

Day 3 – Hutchinson

Our local guide has a memorable day ahead for us! First we’ll tour the Strataca, the only underground salt mine museum in the United States. Journey into a raw portion of the salt mine where virtually everything is exactly as it was left over 50 years ago. “What goes into the mine stays in the mine.” This ride-along adventure takes you through an area of the mine that includes lit areas explaining the challenges and unique solutions required to keep mines safe and functional. For lunch we are guests at the Yoder Amish Farm – delicious food & unique experience! Be sure to take the time to explore this Amish Farm! Next, be sure to save a little room to enjoy a sweet treat before we make our way to the Fox Theatre. We’ll tour this historic 1931 “movie palace.” The Fox is considered one of the finest examples of theatre art deco architecture in the Central United States with its pressed aluminum and metallic glazed terra cotta floral, vegetal, and geometric reliefs, door moldings, capitals and bases, stair railings, light fixtures, cartouches, friezes, and other decorative features. Next up is touring the home of Milburn Stone…AKA Doc from Gunsmoke…one of the only actors in the show for 20 years and in almost all 500 episodes. After an enjoyable dinner, a private evening of entertainment by the Diamond W Wranglers awaits. One of the finest Western Music groups, they’ll bring us to our feet with their inspiring harmonies, quirky humor, and galloping guitars as they perform everything from the oldest ballads like “Streets of Laredo” to the thundering “Ghost Riders in the Sky!”

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 – Hutchinson to Oklahoma City, OK

After breakfast we depart with our guide to Normal, OK where we’ll find the National Weather Center. Have lunch on your own in their Cafe before we go behind the scenes and see the newest technology in action. It’s hard to believe that more than 550 scientists, meteorologists, climatologists, etc. work together to improve the understanding of the earth’s atmosphere and severe weather events! Then we’ll continue on to Oklahoma City to stay for the next 3 nights.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Hotel: Holiday Inn Express (3 Nights)

Day 5 – Oklahoma City

Breakfast is served before we tour the Cherokee Strip Regional Museum, a historical museum that tells the fascinating story of the settlement and development of NW Oklahoma, beginning with the Land Run of 1893. Next up is lunch & a tour at Simpsons Old Time Movie Studio! As we step back into the old west, we’ll find a wide variety of collections and artifacts. Hopalong Cassidy memorabilia, baseball collectibles, train sets and wide range of military items from the cavalry days through WWII are just a few of the museum’s many displays. This afternoon we’ll visit the Express Clydesdales Barn and Ranch, home to the beautiful draft horses that have been featured in the Macy’s Day Parade, Rose Parade, & more! They have also been awared the elite status of World Champions in the six and eight-horse hitch! The horse barn was originally built in 1936 and in 1997 was beautifully restored by Amish carpenters from Shipshewana, complete with exposed gambrel ceiling with suspended chandeliers in the hayloft. We’ll end our day with a wonderful homemade dinner and an original theater production – that will have us laughing – at the Yellow Rose Theater.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 – Oklahoma City

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and a morning to relax. Then we’ll navigate the Oklahoma River during a private boat cruise, complete with a light lunch. Once we disembark, we’ll spend the afternoon at the Oklahoma City Memorial Museum & Grounds. Remembering those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever, the Memorial offers comfort, strength, peace, hope and serenity. An early dinner is served at Cattlemen’s Steakhouse, located smack in the middle of Oklahoma City’s Stockyards City, before our evening show. The Rodeo Opry grew from a love of music and a love of family, and has become an important part of Oklahoma’s musical culture and history. This family-friendly, live music show is proclaimed as “Oklahoma’s Official Country Music Show.”

Included Meals: Breakfast, Light Lunch, Dinner

Day 7 – Oklahoma City to Kansas City, MO

This morning our guide takes us to the American Banjo Museum, featuring the world’s largest collection of banjos! The museum’s collection contains more than 400 instruments, recordings, film, video, printed music, instructional materials, ephemera and memorabilia associated with the banjo. Not only will we enjoy a tour here, but also a great lunch and entertainment that will get our toes tapping and our hands clapping!
