Day 1 – Depart the United States

Depart Mpls. with an R&J Tour Director and take an overnight flight to Reykjavik, Iceland.

 

Day 2 – Arrive Reykjavik

Arrive early afternoon in Reykjavik and enjoy a sightseeing tour. We will see the presidential residence at Bessasta•ir as well as Hafnarfjorour, where we visit the old fishing harbor. Lunch today is at the unique restaurant Perlan, built on water tanks that hold the city’s hot water supplies. Take advantage of spectacular views of the city and surrounding area as you dine. Later, a stop at Hofoi Building where the all-important summit between President Ronald Reagan and Secretary General Mikhail Gorbachev took place in 1986. See the University, the old town center where the Icelandic parliament Albingi is situated, the town hall, the pond Tjornin, and Hallgrimskirkja Church. Continue onto the hotel where we settle in for the next three nights in the heart of Borgar Fjordur.

Day 3 – Snaefellsnes

The Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland´s West is almost like a miniature of the whole country. There are white and black beaches, bird cliffs, spectacular mountains and volcanic craters, incredibly rich trout lakes, salmon rivers, lush valleys, unique harbors in charming fishing villages and its world renowned glacier. We’ll look at stunning rock formations and teeming bird life in the lovely towns of Arnarstapi and Hellnar. Stop at the gorgeous beach Djúpalónssandur, with its spectacular views and rich history. Experience all the beauty and rich history with the serene and majestic Snæfellsjökull glacier serving as stunning backdrop. We’ll also visit the Shark museum in Bjarnarhofn farm, where we’ll get the opportunity of tasting rotten shark, considered a delicacy in Iceland. Later dinner will be at a local restaurant.

Day 4 – Borgarfjordur & Grabrok Crater

Today we’ll visit Grabrok Crater and the Borgarfjordur area. The crater erupted over 3000 years ago and is surrounded by lava covered in moss, birch and willow. We have the opportunity to take an easy walk up to the crater to experience magnificent sweeping scenery. Continue to Borgarnes for lunch and a visit the Settlement Exhibition. Discover how Iceland was discovered, and how the Viking sailors conquered the open ocean and why they left their homelands in Norway. We’ll continue to Deildartunguhver, the hot spring with the strongest water flow in all of Europe. Visit the gorgeous waterfalls, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. Return to your hotel for a relaxing evening.

Day 5 – Golden Circle

After breakfast, embark on the famous Golden Circle tour. First stop at the National Park Pingvellir, where you can see the continental plates drifting apart. Visit the breathtaking waterfall Gullfoss and the famous Geysir area. We will enjoy lunch at Gullfoss Kaffi. This evening we unpack for a relaxing three night stay in Klauster.

Day 6 – Skaftafell and Jokulsarlon Glacier

Today we drive east to explore the Skaftafell National Park. Take a walk up to Svartifoss waterfall, and take time to wander around this picturesque national park. Continue on to the breathtaking Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon for a boat ride sailing amongst icebergs of all shapes and sizes. This thrilling environment is constantly changing as the massive glacier tongue retreats further. Lunch is included here in this unique and exciting piece of nature. Arrive back in Klauster to enjoy dinner together.

Day 7 – South Shore Adventure

After breakfast, continue exploring the southern part of Iceland. Explore the impressive black sand beach of Reynisfjara. We will also visit Dyrholaey and experience impressive rock formations which the Southern coast of Iceland is famous for. Enjoy the scenic area, with its glaciers, mountains and volcanoes. Lunch will be served at Hotel Anna. View the breathtaking movie of Eyjafjallajökull Erupts, a documentary that tells the story from the farmers who live closest to the volcano and how it’s eruption in 2010 affected them.

Day 8 – South Shore with Home Visit

After breakfast, meet your guide and coach. Today, visit the Skogar Folk Museum and experience the Turf Houses and the history of Icelanders. We will walk up to Skogafoss waterfall and admire its impressive 60 m drop. Lunch will be served amongst the sweeping views of the falls at the Hotel Skogafoss. Later we make our way towards Seljalandsfoss waterfall where we’ll have the opportunity to stand behind the plummeting Seljalandsfoss waterfall. A special treat will be in Selfoss, where we will be served Icelandic pancakes in an Icelandic home of an artist. Drive through the small town of Hveragerdi, best known for its green houses, before arriving at our hotel.

Day 9 – Whale Watching and the Blue Lagoon

Today, enjoy a whale watching tour from Reykjavik Harbor. Lunch will be included before we make our way to the famous Blue Lagoon where you can bathe in its rejuvenating waters. In the evening, we will enjoy a Farewell dinner together at Kolabrautin Restaurant, located at the top floor of Iceland’s newest concert Hall, Harpan. A perfect way to spend our last evening together as we reminisce about our Incredible Iceland adventure!

Day 10 – Reykjavik to Home

After breakfast, we’ll check out and head to the airport for our departure flight.
