Days 1 & 2 – Home to Mill Hall, PA 

We’ll travel to our first overnight stay in Lansing, Illinois. We’ll stop for a delightful lunch along the way. Enjoy fall colors as we drive through the winding roads of Wisconsin. Enjoy the passing landscapes as we travel eastward. Our destination is Mill Hall, PA where our hotel awaits. 

Included Meals: Day 1 – Lunch, Day 2 – Breakfast 

Hotel: Holiday Inn Express (Lansing); Hampton Inn (Mill Hall) 

 

Day 3 – Mill Hall to Fishkill, NY 

We will continue our way across Pennsylvania. This afternoon we travel to the West Point Military Academy. What a great opportunity for the R&J Travelers this will be! A step-on guide will board our coach and we will learn the story of West Point, its role in the Revolution, its famous history, as well as stories about graduates who shaped our nation. The majestic Cadet Chapel, completed in 1910, is a classic example of gothic revival architecture, and hosts the world’s largest chapel pipe organ! After our visit to West Point we travel to Fishkill where we will spend the night. Dinner tonight is at Eleven11.

Day 4 – Fishkill to Lake Placid, NY 

Our first stop this morning will be the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA, where a warm welcome awaits. Be surprised and delighted at the magnificence of Rockwell’s large scale original paintings and discover the highly relatable world of American Illustration – the art that tells our stories. There’s always something new to enjoy with ten galleries of ever-changing special exhibitions, engaging programs, a scenic 36-acre campus, and more. Share memories and make new ones. We leave the museum and travel to Albany, New York’s capitol, where you can enjoy lunch on your own. Then on our way to Lake Placid, we will make a stop at Fort William Henry Museum. Step back in time at Fort William Henry and experience life at a British fort in 1755. Watch live musket and cannon firings, play 18th Century games, and join the King’s Army! Talk with British Regulars, Provincial Troops, and Rangers to learn more about this exciting time in Colonial America. Join us in the heart of Lake George to experience the history, sights, and sounds of the French and Indian War! Our next stop after the Fort will be Lake Placid. We will stay at “The Lake” house. Tonight’s dinner will be held across the street at The High Peaks Resort.

Day 5 – Lake Placid 

Enjoy a tour of Lake Placid, where the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics took place, with a local step-on guide. From the giant ski jumps to the ice hockey arenas where America made history with a hockey gold medal! This afternoon we will take a boat ride on Lake Placid, then we’ll take some time to sightsee and browse the shops in this picturesque mountain resort town nestled in the Adirondacks.

Day 6 – Lake Placid to St. Johnsbury, VT 

After breakfast at the High Peaks Resort, we will depart Lake Placid for Essex, NY where we will board a ferry for a scenic ride across Lake Champlain to Charlotte, VT. Take in the breathtaking view of the Adirondack and Green Mountains in all their autumn glory. We will drive by the state capitol in Montpelier before stopping to have lunch on your own in the state capital of Vermont. After lunch we will stop at the Cannon Mountain Aeriel Tram and take a ride to the top of Cannon Mountain. Our destination this evening is St. Johnsbury, VT. Dinner tonight will be a pizza party!

Day 7 – St. Johnsbury to Portland, ME 

We’ll travel the famous Kancamagus Highway, a scenic highway that winds through the White Mountains. Enjoy the sights of some historic covered bridges along the way before stopping in the bustling town of North Conway, with the opportunity to browse in the charming historic village. As we head for Portland, ME, we’ll take in the gorgeous scenery around us. After checking into our hotel for the night, a mouth-watering traditional lobster dinner awaits!

Day 8 – Portland to Peabody, MA 

We will make a stop in delightful Kennebunkport, ME. After a guided trolley tour of the town, take time for lunch on your own and do some shopping. On our way out of town, we will stop at the Seashore Trolley Museum. This is the world’s first and largest museum of mass transit vehicles. While the main focus of the collection is trolley cars, it also includes rapid transit trains, Interurban cars, trolley buses, and motor buses. Our destination today is Peabody, MA.

Day 9 – Peabody to Plymouth, MA 

Boston awaits as we motor south for a 2-hour tour of Boston’s highlights. Enjoy an included lunch stop at Beantown Pub. Then continue on to Plymouth where we will make a stop at Plymoth Rock and climb aboard the newly renovated Mayflower II for a unique experience of stepping back in time. Then we settle into our hotel for the night.

Day 10 – Plymouth to Orange, CT 

We will depart Plymouth and arrive in Newport, Rhode Island for a guided tour of this old seaport town, with its many beautiful mansions lining the streets and coast. After an included lunch at the historic LaForge Restaurant, which is next to the newly remodeled Tennis Hall of Fame, we will tour “The Breakers.” “The Breakers” is a Gilded Age mansion that was built between 1893 and 1895 as a summer residence for Cornelius Vanderbilt II, a member of the wealthy Vanderbilt family. After our tour of the mansion, we will continue on our journey & arrive at today’s destination: Orange, CT.

Day 11 – Orange to New York City 

Travel across beautiful Connecticut to New York City. We’ll check into the perfectly situated Sheraton NY Times Square, steps from Times Square, Broadway, charming cafes, shops, and more. After lunch we’ll welcome a local step-on guide to show us the best sights and sounds of the Big Apple, New York City! See Times Square, Central Park, and many other points of interest. Freshen up and have dinner on your own at one of the many nearby restaurants. Then we’ll attend one of Broadway’s top shows, “A Beautiful Noise!”

Hotel: Sheraton NY Times Square Hotel (2 Nights) 

 

Day 12 – New York City 

This morning we board a ferry boat to the famous Statue of Liberty, a symbol of American freedom to all. Visit Ellis Island and discover, by exhibits, the 12 million people who came here looking for a better life. Since we’ll have viewed the film “Island of Hope, Island of Tears,” on our drive eastward, it truly brings to life our visit to the Great Hall. We continue our sightseeing of NYC with our guide, including a memorable visit to the 9/11 Memorial Site & Museum. Then you’ll be special guests for a memorable evening dinner cruise on the Hudson River. Enjoy sweeping views of the illuminated New York City Skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and more.

Day 13 – New York City to Youngstown, OH 

We travel through the beautiful countryside of Pennsylvania, painted perfectly in fall colors! Then settle into our hotel in Youngstown for a relaxing evening.

Day 14 – Youngstown to Elgin, IL 

Enjoy the company of your fellow travelers as we travel to the Chicago area, where we’ll spend the night. Our farewell dinner will be at The Village Square!

Day 15 – Elgin to Home 

Traveling homeward, take opportunities to recall the pleasant memories of fall in New England and enjoy the friends we’ve made on this fantastic trip!
