Day 1 & 2 Home to Dodge City
Our first two days will be spent getting to our starting destination on Route 66. We stay the first night in Overland Park, Kansas and the following night in Dodge City, Kansas, before we begin our journey on Route 66 in Shamrock, Texas.

Day 3 – Dodge City to Shamrock

Route 66 stretches 375 miles west across New Mexico. It originally followed the Santa Fe Trail. The scenery changes dramatically entering New Mexico to a spectacular southwest landscape. The natural beauty increases as the elevation climbs toward the continental divide in the western part of the state towards the Arizona line. NM has been the home of Native Americans for over 10,000 years. It has been part of the USA since 1848 and a state since 1912.

Day 8  Gallup, to Holbrook, Arizona
Route 66 is very much at home in Arizona. “Arizona” is an Indian word meaning “Little Spring”. No other Route 66 state has as much to offer the 66 traveler as the Copper State. From the perfect climate to the sun bleached desert to snow capped mountains; not to mention the natural treasures of the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest and Grand Canyon National Park. The Santa Fe remains a railroad icon along 66. It is now the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Arizona has superb southwestern scenery at it’s finest.

We will visit a few more Flagstaff Route 66 historic sites before traveling south through the beautiful Mazatzal Mountains to the Phoenix area. A farewell dinner event is planned and a little time to relax and reflect as we enjoy our beautiful Hilton Garden Inn in Scottsdale
