Day 1 – Home to Waco, TX 

Today we leave our Minnesota winter wonderland and fly to Dallas. We’ll take a short drive to Waco, our home for the next two evenings. 

Hotel: Home2 Suites (2 Nights) 

 

Day 2 – Waco 

This morning we will welcome a local step-on guide that will show us some of the sites made famous by HGTV’s Fixer Upper; Joanna & Chip Gaines! We’ll head downtown to Harp Design, see the secrets of Cameron Park, and enjoy a treat before a unique stop at the Magnolia Market and the Silos – there’s something here for everyone! You will have lunch on your own at one of the Market’s food trucks. This afternoon we will visit the Dr. Pepper Museum, where we will hear the story of the invention and history of bottling this 1885 soft drink. Later we will visit the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, which is dedicated to the history and more, of the legendary Texas Rangers – the oldest state law enforcement agency in the nation and an enduring symbol of Texas and the American West. We will enjoy dinner together. What a great day!

Day 3 – Waco to San Antonio, TX 

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll drive to the heart of Texas: San Antonio! After settling into our home for the next 5 nights, we’ll get acquainted with the area & gather for dinner together. Enjoy a restful night before a busy day of touring tomorrow.

Day 4 – San Antonio 

Enjoy breakfast today at the hotel before we board our coach with a step-on guide for a wonderful tour of the city. Lunch will be enjoyed together today. This afternoon we visit the beautiful Mission San Jose, known as “the Queen of Texas Missions.” Next we’ll tour the oldest standing church in Texas, San Fernando Cathedral. This evening we’ll kickback at the hotel’s manager’s reception or you may venture out for dinner on your own while you explore the Riverwalk.

Day 5 – San Antonio 

After another wonderful breakfast at our hotel, we’ll board our Riverwalk boat for a narrated cruise that will unveil all there is along the Riverwalk of downtown San Antonio relative to the city’s culture, history, architecture, and timeless charm. Lunch is served at the historic Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, enjoyed by many for more than a century. This iconic place features wildlife from all over the world that have been collected over the decades, including the famous “78 point buck!” We’ll have some time to explore the museums, then we visit the IMAX theater, where we’ll experience the story of the Alamo before we take a self-guided walking tour of the Alamo itself. We’ll kickback at the hotel again after a busy day.

Day 6 – San Antonio 

Breakfast is served at the hotel before we board our coach for another exciting day. We head north out of San Antonio to the small town of Fredericksburg, home of the National Museum of the Pacific War, where the history of the Pacific War will come alive as we walk through the life of Chester Nimitz, the highly respected leader of the Pacific campaign of WWII. Next we’ll make a stop at Wildseed Farms, the nation’s largest working wildflower farm, for a light lunch on your own and a colorful walking tour. This afternoon we’ll not only see LBJ’s Boyhood Home, but we’ll also take a narrated driving tour through the LBJ Ranch. After returning to San Antonio, we’ll once again kickback at the hotel or you may explore some more of the Riverwalk and city on your own. We’d recommend that on one of your free evenings, you take another Riverwalk boat ride to experience the unique night perspective of the Riverwalk & its lights!

Day 7 – San Antonio 

After breakfast at our hotel this morning, we’re heading to the SAS Factory for a fun tour and a chance to shop their wonderful store for sensible shoes and other great finds. Then we take a short drive to an olive orchard for lunch and a tour where we’ll learn all about olives and olive oil production and uses. We return to the hotel to freshen up before a special dinner is planned tonight at Knibbe Ranch. We’ll start off with a hayride tour of the ranch, narrated by the ranch owner himself, followed by an authentic Texas barbecue!

Day 8 – San Antonio to Home 

We’ll enjoy our last breakfast in San Antonio before we pack up for our flight home out of the San Antonio airport, and remember all the fun we had in Texas!
