The Isla Grand Beach Resort is the premier resort along the Texas Gulf Coast. Located right on the beach, in the southern portion of South Padre Island. With ten acres of lush, tropical beachfront grounds, it’s the perfect Island getaway. All that’s between you and the beach are our tennis courts, swimming pools, and an unlimited number of watersport opportunities. Swim in the clear blue surf or take a quiet walk on the beach. Or stake your claim to a reclining chair poolside and let the sun melt away the concerns of the outside world.

Day 1 – Home to Kansas City, MO

We leave the snow & cold behind as we begin making our way south to our first overnight in Kansas City. Images of walking along the warm sandy beach play in our mind – we can hardly wait! The manager’s reception at our hotel tonight will be serving hot food & cold beverages for us to enjoy.

Day 2 – Kansas City to Denton, TX

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we continue our travels, taking in the scenery around us. Tonight we’ll stop in Denton.

Day 3 – Denton to Buda, TX

This morning after breakfast we visit the Little Chapel in the Woods on Texas Women’s University’s campus. Built in 1938 & 1939 by TWU students & faculty members, the Chapel is designated as one of Texas’ 20 most outstanding architectural achievements. It’s 11 stained glass windows all tell a story about women ministering to human needs. Next we’ll motor to Fort Worth and arrive just in time for an old-fashioned cattle drive at the Fort Worth famous Stockyards. You’ll hear the jingle of spurs, the cattle bawling, and the rhythm of the hoofbeats as the Texas Longhorns are driven past; a bygone era will come to life before your eyes. Lunch is served at Billy Bob’s Honky Tonk Bar, truly a legendary place! Then we’ll stop for a picture of the State Capitol in Austin before reaching Buda, our destination for the night.

Day 4 – Buda to South Padre Island, TX

Breakfast is served at the hotel, before we continue our travels, stopping at the airport to pick-up our flyaway group. To reach South Padre Island, we will cross the two-mile long Queen Isabella Causeway, which is the only road connecting South Padre Island to the mainland. After checking into our beach front condominium resort, the Isla Grand, we may have time to check out all of the wonderful amenities of this fine resort before we enjoy a welcome dinner with our fellow R&J Tours traveling friends to continue to get acquainted.

Days 5-17 – South Padre Island

Spend the next thirteen days relaxing and enjoying your surroundings. R&J Tours will include some daily activities for your enjoyment (see highlights list) as we get aquainted with the Island and the Rio Grande Valley. Your stay on South Padre Island is yours to enjoy as you please. You can join the group for scheduled and optional activities or you can just enjoy the amenities of this special beach front resort.

Day 18 – South Padre Island to Buda, TX

During an included breakfast this morning enjoying the beauty of the sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico, we will pack up our memories and suitcases for our trip back up North. We’ll let the warmth of the south Texas sun and our fellow R&J Tours travelers prepare us as we begin our journey back home. First we will bring the flyaway group back to the airport and bid farewell. The motorcoach group will continue on to Buda for the night.

Day 19 – Buda to Tulsa, OK

After breakfast at the hotel, today is a travel day as we leave the Lone Star State behind and enter Oklahoma, the Sooner State. In 1889, the Indian Territory was opened to settlers. Thousands of people lined up on the border and, when the signal was given, they raced into the territory to claim their land. Some people went in early to claim their land. They became known as Sooners. Hence, Oklahoma’s nickname today. An included dinner is planned this evening with an overnight at the Holiday Inn Express in Tulsa.

Day 20 – Tulsa to Des Moines, IA

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we depart, traveling through Missouri and into Iowa for our last overnight. We’ll enjoy the nice manager’s reception at the hotel this evening.

Day 21 – Des Moines to Home

We’ll start our final day with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a short travel day, arriving back to the Twin Cities in the early afternoon. What grand memories we share of South Padre Island!
