Day 1 – Home to Virginia Beach, VA

Upon arrival at Norfolk International Airport, a motor coach and local tour guide will greet our group and take us on a “Welcome to Virginia Beach” driving tour, getting us acquainted with this coastal resort town. We will visit the old Cape Henry Lighthouse, a symbol of Virginia Beach that stands near the spot where in 1607 Captain Newport raised a cross to offer thanks for the safe crossing of the Atlantic by the first settlers. Next we visit the Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum, a former life-saving station from 1903, featuring exhibits dedicated to preserving our maritime heritage. View displays about life-saving service, ship wrecks, and Coast Guard rescue work through World War II at the oceanfront. Following check-in at our oceanfront hotel, dinner tonight will be at Rockafeller’s – a local favorite, featuring fresh seafood and views of the deep water fishing fleet at Rudee Inlet.

Many aircraft have been fully restored to their World War II condition and are used for flight demonstration, movie production and commercials. Next, we’re off to Naval Station Norfolk, the largest naval installation in the world. On our riding tour, we’ll pass the historic homes built for the 1907 Jamestown Exposition on “Admiral’s Row” and drive by the military vessels, including the magnificent battleships. An active-duty military personnel will board the motorcoach and narrate throughout the base. Lunch will take place at one of the officer’s clubs on base. Our next stop is the Chrysler Museum, recognized as one of the top art museum collections in the country by The Wall Street Journal. The experience will begin with Taste of Tattoo: A Pre-Performance Dinner Experience, featuring lively entertainment acts performed on a stage while guests enjoy a delicious, plentiful Southern buffet dinner. Then it’s on to the main event—the Tattoo, the largest in the United States.
