Bayfield – Madeline Island – Duluth – North Shore – Cranberry Festival – Gooseberry Falls – Split Rock


Day 1 Home to Winona

Welcome aboard! Today we depart for a fantastic fall adventure in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our journey begins as we motor south along the St. Croix River with lunch enroute and a planned stop at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha for an interesting show with one of their live, rescued eagles. Then we will head to Fountain City, WI to Elmer’s Toy Museum, a unique museum that’s home to thousands of treasures: antique toys, dolls, real and toy classic cars. After checking into The Plaza Hotel & Suites in Winona, we’ll enjoy a fine dining experience at Signatures Restaurant, complete with a breathtaking view.

Day 2 Winona to Eau Claire

Breakfast is included at the hotel and then we are off to Warrens Cranberry Festival, the “Cranberry Capital of Wisconsin!” With 1,400 booths, this is the world’s largest cranberry festival. After an hour long tour of a working cranberry marsh, you are free to explore the festival for 4-5 hours. Be sure to take in the largest marching band parade in Wisconsin, the 3+ miles of shopping, contests, and tasty cranberry treats! Our next stop is the Cain Orchard in Hixton, home of 40 acres of delicious apples and blueberries. This evening we are guests at the Fanny Hill Dinner Theatre for the performance of “Unnecessary Farce.” We’ll overnight in Eau Claire.

Day 3 Eau Claire to Bayfield

After breakfast at the hotel, we head to Chippewa Falls to tour the town’s oldest business, Leinenkugel’s. The Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company is the 7th oldest brewery in the U.S. Later we’ll motor to the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame that boasts world-record mounted freshwater fish, classic fishing boats, and more goodies that fishing enthusiasts are sure to enjoy! Continue onto Bayfield for a scrumptious, 5-course dinner like no other at the Old Rittenhouse Inn. We’ll overnight at the Bayfield Inn, right on the shores of Lake Superior.

Day 4 Bayfield & Madeline Island

We’ll start our morning off with an included breakfast and a guided tour of beautiful Bayfield, rich in history and bountiful with orchards. Then we’ll ferry the short distance to Madeline Island for an interesting tour of their laid back lifestyle and an included lunch at The Pub. Spend a relaxing afternoon shopping and discovering the island. Return to Bayfield, the Gateway to the Apostle Islands, for an evening at your leisure.

Day 5 Bayfield to Duluth

Enjoy a narrated cruise of the Apostle Islands, learning about lighthouses, shipwrecks, quarries, sea caves, and the fascinating history of the islands. A boxed lunch is included onboard. Upon return to the shore, we’ll bid Bayfield farewell and motor through the countryside to Duluth where we will enjoy a Skyline tour. You’ll have the opportunity to freshen up at our hotel, in the heart of Canal Park, before heading out for a special evening at Valentini’s Vicino Lago. As you savor your Italian delicacy, the 3-piece band Strolling Mistro’s will be serenading each table.

Day 6 Duluth & North Shore

Motor north on scenic Lake Shore Drive, taking in amazing views of Lake Superior. We’ll enjoy a guided tour of Split Rock Lighthouse, which has been restored to its 1920s splendor. This nostalgic lighthouse served as a beacon of light for many years. After lunch at the Splashing Rock Restaurant in the Grand Superior Lodge, we’ll continue along the north shore to Gooseberry Falls, providing great picture opportunities. Return to Duluth for an evening Vista Fleet cruise. While you enjoy your dinner onboard, take in the fall foliage around you as well as some of the world’s largest ocean going ships.

Day 7 Duluth to Home

Breakfast is served at the hotel this morning. Feel the “presence of the past” as we experience an enchanting tour of Glensheen Mansion, the historic Congdon Estate. As we depart for home, we’ll stop in Hinckley at Tobies Bakery for our last hurrah. Try one of their “melt-in-your-mouth” caramel rolls!
