This morning we welcome a local guide to help us spend the day exploring fascinating San Antonio. We start with a visit to the IMAX Theater where we will experience the story of the Alamo. After the showing we will tour the Alamo, the place where Texas liberty was birthed and 200 heroic defenders lost their lives to General Santa Anna’s army. Later learn about the many ethnic groups that settled in Texas at the Institute of Texan Cultures. Lunch is served atop the Americas in HemisFair Plaza the site of the 1968 World’s Fair. Enjoy sweeping views as you dine at a height of 750 feet. This afternoon visit beautiful Mission San Jose, known as “the Queen of Texas Missions.” Later your leisure to do some shopping at the colorful Mexican Marketplace at El Mercado.

5. San Antonio
Sleep late or maybe enjoy a morning stroll along the Riverwalk. Today is free to enjoy the surrounding area of San Antonio. Some may want to take a float ride on the Riverwalk just outside your hotel. Others may want to join the motorcoach for a visit to Fredericksburg, a quaint little German Village. Stop at the Admiral Nimitz Museum Historical Park and Museum of the Pacific War. Stop in the rustic and authentic western town of Bandera for some time to browse the frontier shops. Return to the hotel for a restful evening. Your tour director can help with any suggestions. This evening enjoy dinner on your own.

6. San Antonio to Laredo
Motor deep into the Rio Grande Valley, with lovely year round flowers. Arrive in Laredo, Texas and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. These cities reflect the colorful past of colonial Spain, Old Mexico, and the old West. See the old Capitol, and St. Augustine Church, originally built in 1767. Take a walk across the International Bridge to Nuevo Laredo for some shopping in Old Mexico. Enjoy the colorful markets lined with merchants selling their unique wares. Enjoy a Margarita reception before a delight dinner is served at your hotel this evening.

7. Laredo to McAllen
Motor south into the Rio Grande Valley passing Falcon Lake which is slowly revealing the forgotten city that once lay beneath. Lunch is included at the historic Cortez Hotel. Enjoy some shopping time in the historic district before we check into the all new Drury Inn & Suites.

8. McAllen
Today you have a couple of options to choose from. Some may want to visit friends that are staying for the winter months here in McAllen. Others may want to join the coach for a free tour to South Padre Island. A special sight will be the Iwo Jima Memorial on the campus of the Harlingen’s Marine Military Academy. Return to the hotel for a restful evening.
