Washington D.C. Getaway

Day 1 – Home to Washington D.C.
Fly to Washington D.C.  We’ll check into our lovely hotel and enjoy some free time before a welcome dinner at The Old Ebbitt Grill, Washington’s oldest, most historic saloon.  Established in 1856, it was a favorite of many past presidents and is still a popular meeting spot for political insiders, journalists, celebrities and R&J Travelers.

Day 2 – Washington D.C.
Breakfast is served at the hotel before we’re off on a half-day tour of Washington D.C.  Motor along Pennsylvania Avenue, the grand boulevard connecting the White House and Capitol Hill, to view the imposing U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court. Visit the Library of Congress, with it’s vast collections and spectacular architecture.  See the historic Reading Room from the viewing area before we return to the hotel for a delightful presentation about our nation’s capital. This afternoon, visit the Smithsonian Institute.  A free evening provides the opportunity to experience one of Washington’s fine restaurants, attend a theater performance, or simply relax.

Day 3 – Washington D.C.
Tour Arlington National Cemetery, final resting place for many national heroes. Pay tribute to the Shuttle Columbia astronauts at the new memorial dedicated to the members, as well as to John F. Kennedy at the eternal flame that marks his gravesite. Enjoy a narrated coach tour of the national monuments and memorials of Washington, D.C. Enroute to the National Mall, view the stately monuments to Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln, and stop to walk through the newest memorial dedicated to the veterans of World War II.   This evening is at your leisure to pursue your own interests.

Day 4 – Washington D.C.
Today we motor along the scenic countryside into Virginia to Mount Vernon Inn for a delightful included lunch.  Tour Mount Vernon, the plantation estate of George and Martha Washington.  This evening you will experience an elegant dinner cruise on the Potomac River offering sweeping views of the monuments illuminated at night – a must while you are here in Washington D.C.

Day 5 – Washington D.C. to Home
Enjoy a free morning here in Washington D.C.  This afternoon we depart, with many pleasant memories of a wonderful vacation.
