Wisconsin’s Passport to a European Getaway

1. Home to Kenosha
Depart for our “European” Getaway with a lunch stop will be at Burnstad’s European Cafe. Explore the Specialty Gourmet Shop and the Burnstad’s European Village with lunch on your own. Visit the Old World Grocery Store before we arrive at our hotel in Kenosha set on the shores of Lake Michigan. This evening experience Kenosha’s Italian heritage at dinner.

2. Kenosha
After breakfast, we leave our Italian experience behind and begin our Danish Heritage tour. A visit to the Danish Uncle Marketplace will give us a great presentation on the history and making of kringles. Our local guide brings the colorful heritage of Racine to life. A special heritage lunch is served at the Ye Olde Cheese Box. Experience the Old World Charm of Milwaukee as we tour Turner Hall, the original German social club, German/English Academy, Old World Main Street, Germania Building, Pabst Theatre, City Hall and the Pabst Mansion. This 37-room Flemish Renaissance mansion was built in 1892 for beer baron Capt. Frederick Pabst. This evening enjoy a delightful German dining experience as we feast at the Gasthaus Restaurant. Enjoy the dining rooms lavish German architecture.

3. Kenosha to New Glarus
A local guide joins us for a tour of Kenosha this morning. Later visit Old World Wisconsin, a living history museum where European influence abounds. Later we’ll learn how Swiss cheese is made at the Alp and Dell Cheese Factory in Monroe. We’ll also visit The Joseph Huber Brewery, one of the oldest breweries in the nation brewing its first batch in 1845. Later arrive in New Glarus, a delightful Swiss Village nestled in Wisconsin A welcome reception is served as we check into the Chalet Landhaus Inn, in the heart of New Glarus village. A traditional Swiss dinner is planned this evening. Enjoy a Cheese Fondue Appetizer Demonstration from the chef as he explains Swiss tradition before the main course and entertainment.

4. New Glarus to Home
This morning visit the Chalet of the Golden Fleece, modeled after a Swiss Bernese mountain chalet. Let’s continue north into the 19th century village known as the Troll Capital of the World, Mount Horeb. Little Norway is located in the “Valley of the Elves” and was built by a Norwegian immigrant in the 1860s. Guides share the story of the Norwegian immigrants as we tour original farm buildings. Continue home with memories of far away places so close to home.

5. Ludington to Home
A breakfast we board the S.S. Badger for a relaxing cruise across beautiful Lake Michigan. On board enjoy the comfortable lounge on deck, or maybe a visit to the Maritime Museum. Some may want to take in a movie or play bingo. Have lunch on your own home.
