“Home, home on the Range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard,
a discouraging word
For what can an antelope say…”
Breathe deeply the cleanest air in America, travel off the beaten path and enjoy scenic byways, backways and legends of the Old West. There is mysterious beauty and adventure only found in these wide open rolling hills of legendary Western North Dakota!
Day 1 – Home to Medora, ND
We will travel west today, gradually leaving the lakes and trees of Minnesota behind, making our way into the open vistas of the prairies of North Dakota. Our “home on the range” for the next 4 days is the Badlands Motel, where the rooms have a western theme. Set in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, this rustic, western-themed motel is 2 miles from Burning Hills Amphitheatre and a mile from Chateau de Mores and just steps away from the best Medora shops. You might like to enjoy the outdoor pool. Medora is the number one destination for visitors to North Dakota. Dinner tonight is served at the Rough Riders Hotel.
Included Meals: Dinner
Hotel: Badlands Motel (4 Nights)
Day 2 – Medora
After a great breakfast buffet we set out to explore Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Find out why Teddy Roosevelt loved this region and helped to create a national park to preserve it. The vast North Dakota prairies, rivers, and badlands are home to a wide variety of native wildlife such as herds of bison, elk, bighorn sheep, bald and golden eagles, meadowlarks, burrowing owls, prairie dogs, and several bands of wild horses. During the summer months, herds of Mustangs may be seen grazing on the upland plateaus in the park, where they can enjoy the cooling winds and lush grasses. Today, Theodore Roosevelt National Park is one of the few areas in the West where free-roaming horses may be readily observed. There is nothing quite like the site of a stallion silhouetted high on a ridge protecting its herd! After lunch on your own, we will take in The Medora Magic Show and a visit with Teddy Roosevelt that will provide an entertaining insight into Medora’s colorful history. Theodore Roosevelt comes to life in this vivid presentation. Learn about him as President, husband, father, soldier, and hunter. Much of this show also focuses on Teddy’s time right here in the North Dakota Badlands. And now for the main event: The nationally acclaimed Pitchfork Steak Fondue is an absolute delight. Every evening chefs load steaks onto pitchforks and fondue them western style right before your eyes. Savor your steak as you overlook the picturesque Badlands from atop a bluff at the Tjaden Terrace. Your steak comes with all of the fixin’s. Plus, you’ll be serenaded with western melodies. Following dinner is the Medora Musical. Enjoy family entertainment while in the outdoor splendor of the North Dakota Badlands in the 2,852 seat Burning Hills Amphitheater. This professionally produced, high energy, western style musical is proudly dedicated to the legacy of America’s 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt, and the time he spent here in North Dakota’s Badlands. Each show pays tribute to American patriotism and the Old West. The Medora Musical also features nationally known variety acts, live horses on stage and a gospel tribute.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 3 – Medora
Another hearty breakfast buffet prepares us for our adventures today. Just a short drive west of Medora is Father Cassedy’s ranch for needy boys and girls, the nationally acclaimed Home on the Range. In a truly authentic setting we have the privilege of witnessing the ranch’s 67th annual Champions Ride Saddle Bronc Rodeo. An exclusive orientation tour of the ranch, lunch in the Home on the Range kitchen, and special reserved seating for the rodeo has all been arranged for our group. This will truly be an unequaled experience you will want to share with family and friends when you return. We return to Medora this afternoon to relax before we have dinner on the Schaefer Center Patio.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4 – Medora
This morning get ready for some good ole toe-tappin’, gospel music! We start with a fantastic array of brunch favorites, followed up with one heck of a gospel show with a full band, gospel quartet, and an inspiring message. The Medora Gospel Brunch will be the perfect way to start our day! Afterwards, we’ll stop at the Painted Canyon Visitors Center and take in the beautiful scenery! Next enjoy some free time to shop, find some ice cream, or visit the Cowboy Hall of Fame. Then we head to explore “Chateau de Mores” and learn about the founding and history of Medora. Tonight we return to the Rough Riders Hotel to enjoy a pizza party and our last evening in this special town. What a great day!
Included Meals: Brunch, Pizza Party
