Day 1 – Home to Kansas City, KS

Our first stop today will be the musically memorable Surf Ballroom & Museum. The scenic walls, hardwood floors, and booths are reminiscent of milkshakes and rock and roll. Our journey continues as we make our way to “no place like home”… Kansas! This evening we will overnight at the Drury Inn & Suites and enjoy a delicious dinner at the Texas Roadhouse.

Included Meals: Dinner

Hotel: Drury Inn & Suites

Day 2 – Kansas City to Abilene, KS

This morning we make a stop at the Friendship House Bakery for freshly baked rolls and hot coffee. Then we are off to the OZ Museum and Columbian Theatre. Visiting the OZ Museum will be an enchanting experience as we see unimaginable exhibits and collectibles like Baum books and OZ Parker Brothers board games. Then we will take some time touring the beautiful restored Columbian Theatre. Our delicious lunch is at Cox BBQ, where you can choose which style of “Q” to enjoy: sticky messy KC style, the Texas slow-smoked beef brisket that stands on its own style, the Memphis dry rub pork cuts style, or the tangy Carolina style. This afternoon we are joined by a guide who will take us on an interesting tour of the beautiful campus and gardens of Kansas State University that was founded in Manhattan on February 16, 1863, during the Civil War. After we check into the Holiday Inn Express for a two night stay, you’re invited down for a pizza party to enjoy each other’s company as we get to know our fellow travelers better!

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Pizza Party

Hotel: Holiday Inn Express (2 Nights)

Day 3 – Abilene

After breakfast we start the day at the Heritage Center where we can explore a cabin, a grocery store built in 1932 and have an opportunity to ride an original 1901 C.W. Parker Carousel. Get ready for a fun excursion as we take you back in time on an Abilene & Smoky Valley restored train! Next enjoy a bite to eat at a local favorite restaurant, the Hitching Post. After lunch we visit the Eisenhower Presidential Library where we can explore the extraordinary life and legacy of the only 5-star General who became President of the United States. The Museum and Boyhood Home also allows us to explore Ike’s boyhood years growing up in America’s heartland. Next we will tour one of the finest historic mansions of Kansas, the Seeyle Mansion & Gardens. The mansion was built for Dr. & Mrs. A.B. Seelye in 1905, and the original furniture and Edison light fixtures still remain. This evening enjoy dinner at the historic Brookville Hotel, with its replicated façade and roots tracing back to the 1870’s.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 – Abilene to Overland Park, KS

This morning after a leisurely breakfast, we visit the Greyhound Hall of Fame, a tribute to man’s best friend. This afternoon we make our way to Kansas City to tour the Steamboat Arabia. The mighty Steamboat Arabia sank near Kansas City in 1856, carrying 200 tons of mystery cargo and was recovered in 1988. We will have the opportunity to experience the everyday objects that made life possible for pioneers in the 1800s. This evening we will be entertained while dining at the New Theatre. Tonight’s performance is Sister Act! While disco diva Deloris is in protective custody at a convent, she brings new life to the community with her singing talent. A delightful end to the day!
