Days 1 & 2 – Home to Cape Town

Today we begin on a journey of a lifetime to South Africa! Our first stop is one of the most picturesque tourist destinations and most beautiful cities in the world…Cape Town! Situated amidst majestic mountains and surrounded by pristine white beaches it is often called the “cosmopolitan hub of Africa.” Cape Town is home to a rich cultural and historical heritage, vibrant restaurants and a multitude of activities! Our lodging for the next 3 nights is the Southern Sun Waterfront Hotel. We will enjoy a welcome dinner this evening and get settled, anticipating the adventures that begin tomorrow!

Day 3 – Cape Town

This morning we depart on an informative Cape Town city tour. Our guide will share highlights and history as we travel. We’ll visit the South African Museum which will have many displays sharing the history of the inhabitants of the land, sea, and air of this country. Another stop will be the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest surviving building in South Africa. It was built by the Dutch East India Company and used as a maritime replenishment station. We will already have seen Table Mountain, now it’s time for a ride to the top on the Cableway. This 10 minute ride with the cable car’s rotating floor ensures you will have a great view of the city. Table Mountain is one of South Africa’s most famous landmarks with its steep cliffs and rocky outcrops that play home to a number of plants and animals. Just maybe we’ll see a Table Mountain Ghost Frog that is found no other place in the world!

Day 4 – Cape Town

After breakfast, our guide will take us on a full day Cape Point tour. Travel via the 12 Apostles, Hout Bay and Chapmans Peak. We’ll begin by taking the Chapman’s Peak Drive which is situated on the Atlantic Coast, at the south-western tip of South Africa – It is one of the most spectacular marine drives anywhere in the world! Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve which comes to an end at majestic Cape Point. Situated at the junction of two of earth’s most contrasting water masses, it is popularly perceived as the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans! We will take a cable car to a higher vantage point to witness the “meeting of the two oceans!” After an included lunch we’ll travel to Boulders Beach to see the main residents, the African Penguins! Later this afternoon you will have some free time to be at leisure or enjoy some nearby shopping.

Day 5 – Cape Town to Mpumalanga

After breakfast today we transfer to the airport for our flight to the Kruger National Park area. Here we will spend the next 5 days enjoying 6 game drives where many animals, including lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino will surely be within camera range! Plus there are great chances to also see zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, wild dog and vast antelope herds! We’ll enjoy the varied terrain and more than 300 species of trees and other fascinating plants and grasses. Our first two nights will be spent at the Bongani Mountain Lodge, situated in the shadows of the Malelane Mountain range and surrounded by the peace and tranquility of the African bush.

Day 6 – Mthetomusha Private Game Reserve

An early morning wake-up call will get us ready for our first game drive of the day. Along with tea or coffee, the fresh morning air will bring us to life with the anticipation of viewing the “Big 5”. Traveling in our small open air vehicles, experienced rangers and trackers share their knowledge of the African bush as we ready our cameras for that special shot! After our game drive we will return to the Lodge for breakfast and some free time. After lunch and plenty of time to enjoy the amenities of the lodge, we will once again depart for a night game drive. After tracking animals we will receive a briefing on the stars and a chance to see the small, but very important, nocturnal animals of the area. Dinner this evening will be served in the bush if the weather allows!

Day 7 – Mthetomusha Reserve to Sabie River

Rise and shine! After a cup of coffee we again board our small open vehicles for another game drive. Our rangers and trackers are ready to share with us another unforgettable experience! Back at the lodge we will have breakfast before we transfer to the Protea Hotel Kruger Gate for the next 3 nights. The superior, lodge-style Protea Hotel Kruger Gate on the banks of the Sabie River in Mpumalanga offers a luxury getaway! After check-in enjoy the facilities the hotel has to offer and the wonderful dinner served.

Day 8 – Mpumalanga Province

After breakfast this morning you will depart for the day on a scenic Panoramic route tour in Mpumalanga province. This route is best known for its cultural heritage and dramatic landscapes. The route hosts some of the best adrenalin enhancing adventures in the country as well as some more placid pastimes. One of the major highlights of the region is the Blyde River Canyon Reserve, home to spectacular wildlife and birdlife and some of the best views in South Africa! The Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon of its kind in the world! Scenic views, waterfalls, wildlife and canyons will keep your cameras busy. We’ll return to the hotel later in the afternoon where dinner will be served and we can again enjoy the wonderful amenities.

Day 9 – Kruger National Park

We’ll begin the day very early as we head to Kruger National Park for a full-day game drive in open safari vehicles. Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of South Africa, this park is unrivalled in the diversity of its life forms and is a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies. Wildlife abound and the day will be a special time spent in the beauty of the outdoors! Returning to the hotel later in the afternoon, we will rest before dinner is served and we gather together to share about our spectacular day’s drive in Kruger National Park!

Day 10 – Kruger Nat’l Park to Johannesburg

This morning we transfer to the airport for a flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival we will begin our guided tour of Johannesburg with stops at Hector Pieterson Memorial where we’ll learn about the history of apartheid as we visit the Hector Pieterson Museum. 12 year old Hector was shot near this spot during the Soweto uprising and this spot is a symbol of resistance to the brutality of the apartheid government. Then a stop at the Nelson Mandela Family Museum immerses us in some authentic history regarding the world’s most famous former prisoner. Later today we will check into the Maslow Hotel where we will enjoy the amenities of this fine establishment. Dinner and the evening are at your leisure tonight.

Day 11 – Johannesburg to Victoria Falls

We travel today to the Victoria Falls area for a 2 night stay. Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world as it rises over 100 yards high and is over 18 football fields long! As the Zambezi River plummets over the edge and thunders into the gorge, it creates the largest curtain of water in the world. The falls and the surrounding area have been declared National Parks and a World Heritage Site, thus preserving the area from excessive commercialization. Upon arrival in the area we will check into the Ilala Lodge for a two night stay, ideally situated close to the Falls and city centre. Spend the afternoon at leisure, have dinner and then join the group for an evening cruise on the mighty Zambezi River. Relax and enjoy the beauty and serenity of the area. You may see wildlife including hippo, crocodile, elephant, and sometimes rhino as well as many different kinds of birds. The sunsets are breathtaking…so sit back and take it all in!

Day 12 – Victoria Falls

Today it’s all about “The Falls” as our guide leads us on a tour of the Victoria Falls area. Spectacular views of the falls and time spent in the Rain Forest will keep your camera clicking and your jaw dropping! What a special day in this beautiful area of the world! It’s been such a spectacular tour, but this evening we must start thinking about traveling home as we gather for our “Farewell Dinner.”

Days 13 & 14 – Victoria Falls to Home

Enjoy breakfast one more time together with your safari companions before we transfer to the airport for our flights back home.
