The Black Hills
Day 1 – Home to Pierre
Travel west across Minnesota and into South Dakota, where we will stop at the Terry Redlin Art Center and view many of the original paintings by the master artist. For eight years Terry was named America’s most popular artist. We’ll continue west as we head to the Capital of South Dakota, Pierre. We’ll have a chance to see the State Capitol Building and some other local stops before checking into our hotel for the night. We’ll enjoy an included dinner.

Day 2 – Pierre to Deadwood
Head west on part of the Lewis and Clark Trail. View the plains of South Dakota as we travel toward Wall for a visit to the world famous Wall Drug Store. You’ll want to get a drink of free cold water and check out the rest of the big store. Head to Deadwood where we will tour the Homestead Gold Mine before we check into our hotel for two nights, the Hampton Inn at the 4 Aces Casino. We’ll take part in some old west history as we watch the evening performance of the play “The Trial of Jack McCall,” about the trial of the man who murdered Wild Bill Hickok.

Day 3 – Deadwood
After breakfast we’ll travel over the scenic roads of the Black Hills on the way to Mt. Rushmore to view the National Monument carved by Gutzon Borglum to honor four of our Great Presidents.We can sit and enjoy or walk the trails to the base of the monument. Head to Keystone for lunch and a ride through the Black Hills on the steam-powered ‘1880 Train’. Continue through the hills as we drive to the Crazy Horse monument and see another large rock carving still under construction. Our scenic day will conclude with a great western dinner.

Day 4 – Deadwood to Chamberlain
Tour Deadwood and stop at Boot Hill before heading to Spearfish and take in another of the area’s most scenic drives. We’ll stop at the Rushmore Blackhills Gold Jewelry Factory and then in Spearfish for lunch and some souvenir shopping. Later, drive through South Dakota’s Badlands and then on to Chamberlain, where we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner and stay at Cedar Shore Resort on the banks of the Missouri River.

Day 5 – Chamberlain to Home
Depart with a stop in Mitchell to see the World Famous Corn Palace where 1000’s of kernels of corn adorn the outside of the structure. Take time to look around, shop, and have a cup of coffee before we continue homeward into Minnesota.
