Day 1 – Home to San Jose
Board your flight today for San Jose, Costa Rica, Central America’s greatest hidden gem, a haven for eco-tourism. We meet our expert, full-time Costa Rican Bilingual Guide, Edgar Salazar, at the airport. Then we’ll check into the contemporary Wyndham Herradura Hotel with decor inspired by the beauty of the tropics. Ed will make us feel welcome as we enjoy dinner together with a relaxing overnight.

Day 2 – San Jose to Tortuguero
R&J Tours and Nature Travel Expert, Edgar have chosen to include Tortuguero for our guests, as this truly is the best place to see wildlife. Sights include a frog pond, butterfly garden, spectacular rain forests of Braulio Carrillo National Park, and more. Enjoy a breakfast buffet with tropical fruits before boarding flat riverboats at Cano Blanco specially designed for canal navigation that will take us to our waiting wilderness, eco-touristic lodge in Tortuguero National Park, the amazon of Costa Rica. This amazing intricate network of jungles, canals, peaceful lagoons, and islands, set along the Carribean Sea, is a delightful adventure.

Day 3 – Tortuguero National Park
An early morning guided boat exploration will awaken our sense of adventure and appetite. Then breakfast will be served at the Lodge before a nature walk along the Tortuguero trails of the rainforest. You may see spider, howler and white faced-monkeys, and the poison dart frog. Observe a variety of exotic birds including parrots, toucans, kingfisher, and an array of other rare types. Lunch is at the lodge today. This afternoon take a guided boat exploration tour on the fresh water river as we spot and observe the exotic wildlife of the area. This evening enjoy dinner at the lodge.

Day 4 – Tortuguero to Arenal Volcano
After our buffet breakfast at the lodge, we depart Tortuguero and make our way to the Arenal Volcano, where the alluring Arenal Kioro Hotel awaits. Lunch is included today at the Selva Tropical Restaurant. We find ourselves surrounded by a diverse natural environment and a spectacular view of the Arenal Volcano. Enjoy two nights of relaxation in the midst of a natural viewpoint to the Arenal Volcano. We will be surrounded by two streams with crystalline waters that begin to flow in the Arenal Volcanic National Park. Private Thermal Hot Springs surround gardens on this beautiful property. Later, join us as we experience typical Costa Rican cuisine at a local restaurant for dinner.

Day 5 – Arenal Volcano
The hanging bridges are located within the corridor, followed by birds migrating between North and South America. The trails and bridges of this project will bring you as close as you could ever hope to get to the birds, the flowers, and the lush vegetation of the primary rain forest. You will be able to walk right into the forest, thanks to the imposing hanging bridges and the beautiful trails that are safe and easy to walk on. Our guide will help set up an optional “zipline” experience today (at an additional cost). Later this afternoon, we will experience a Rainforest Chocolate tour, discovering the ancient secrets of chocolate in this tropical region. A delightful dinner is served at our beautiful Hotel Kioro.

Day 6 – Arenal Volcano to Pacific Coast
After breakfast leave Arenal Volcano for the scenic Northwest Pacific Coast. Continue to the Hotel Tamarindo Diria surrounded by exuberant vegetation, pools, and is on the Pacific Ocean beach. Your oceanview rooms for the next two nights will be in the center of town and right on the beach. Enjoy a walk by the ocean or simply relax by the pools. End the day with dinner served at the Hotel, as we watch a spectacular sunset!

Day 7 – Pacific Coast
Enjoy breakfast at the resort beginning a full day of leisure. This genuine beach resort sits along a stretch of light-sand beach and is surrounded by lush green mountains and national parks on the most famous Costa Rican beach. Lunch and dinner are on your own today. There is a full-service ‘tour desk’ concierge that can arrange your leisure day activities: horseback ride, white water rafting, deep-sea fishing, ATV’s, surf lessons and other activities (at an additional cost).

Day 8 – Pacific Coast to San Jose
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the resort. As we travel back to San Jose, we stop to visit the country’s famous “Sarchi,” with its countless souvenir and handicraft handmade artifacts. See elaborately painted bowls and trays, natural wood serving utensils, tables, furniture, jewelry boxes, and carvings. It’s time to fill any remaining empty spaces in our suitcases! We continue on to San Jose for our last overnight stay. This evening dinner is at a favorite local restaurant, including a typical Costa Rican show, as we bid farewell to amazing Costa Rica.

Day 9 – San Jose to Home
After breakfast at the hotel, we board our flight for home arriving in Minneapolis this evening.
