Day 1 – Home to Tomah, WI

Our journey to the Cranberry Capital begins with a stop for a guided Pilgrimage at Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in LaCrosse, WI. Nestled on 70 acres of woodland and completed in 2008, this Marian Shrine was the dream of Bishop Raymond L. Burke. Continuing on, we’ll check into the The Cranberry Lodge, providing an inviting Northwoods atmosphere, for a two-night stay. Get to know one another during our Welcome Dinner at the Lodge.

Included Meals: Dinner

Hotel: The Cranberry Lodge (2 Nights)

Day 2 – Tomah / Warrens

Breakfast at the Lodge prepares us for a day of experiencing Wisconsin’s bounty! Did you know that Wisconsin’s #1 fruit crop is the cranberry, producing over 60% of the world’s supply of cranberries? We’ll learn all about cranberries at Wetherby Cranberry Company during a private tour of this family-owned and operated cranberry marsh with a third-generation grower as our guide. Wetherby was founded in 1903 and began packing fresh cranberries in 1905. Since we are visiting a working farm, whatever work is being done the day of our visit, we’ll see. Plus we will have the opportunity to walk down into a cranberry bed (without water in it) and see firsthand how cranberries are grown. Our guide will also take us to their Fresh Fruit Processing Plant for an interesting tour. This is definitely an educational experience that we will long remember! Next we’ll visit Dempze Cranberry Company for their “Rooted In Red” experience. This 5th generation family business keeps growing as they continue to expand hybrid research while developing environmentally sustainable growing practices. We will be treated to a wagon tour of their cranberry farm to learn about local cranberry history, their family’s century old farm, their ethical and sustainable growing practices, and how cranberries are pollinated, grown, and harvested. October is harvest time – we’ll soon find out what stage of harvest they’ll be in! A wonderful lunch of tasty seasonal foods will be served here at the farm. We’ll also be treated to a cooking demonstration – any guesses what one of the ingredients might be?! After refreshing at our Lodge, we’re guests at the Tomah Area Community Theatre for a catered dinner and a private showing of Moon Over Buffalo!

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 – Tomah to Sister Bay, WI

One last breakfast at The Cranberry Lodge before we depart and we make our way northeast, enjoying all the beautiful fall colors the closer we get to picturesque Door County. An expert local guide will then join us for an afternoon of exploring, starting with lunch at Sonny’s Pizza. This will be followed by a stop at “The Old Rugged Cross” where Rev. George Bennard completed this powerful hymn in 1913. Next we’ll visit the Door Peninsula Winery and enjoy some samples. Then we’ll head to scenic Cave Point County Park, located inside Whitefish Dunes State Park. Did you know that Cave Point is the most iconic and photographed place in Door County?! It’s time to check into the high sought-after Open Hearth Lodge for a two-night stay. A delicious dinner will be served at Chop Steakhouse. Returning to our Lodge, feel free to enjoy the wonderful amenities, like the heated indoor pool, the whirlpool with it’s cozy view, the sitting area with a fireplace, and the outdoor patio with gas firepit. With picturesque nature surrounding us, the Lodge easily feels like home!

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Hotel: Open Hearth Lodge (2 Nights)

Day 4 – Door County

Enjoy breakfast before our expert guide again joins us for a busy day of exploring. First we take a scenic drive to the tip of Door County to visit Seaquist Orchards, a farm market that sells delicious jams, jellies, salsa, pie fillings, fresh picked apples, and more. Happy Door County shopping! Next a stop at Bjorklunden Chapel, a small wooden church built in the 12th century Norwegian stave church style, will give us a real taste of Norwegian history. A Scandinavia lunch is then served at Al Johnson’s, established in 1949. Be sure to look for the live goats on the roof their authentic Swedish log building. This afternoon, we will head to Peninsula State Park where we will get to tour Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. Perched on a bluff 76 feet above Green Bay’s glistening waters, Eagle Bluff Lighthouse’s lamp brought solace to many a sailor suffering through a storm’s gale or the dark of night. Today the tradition of the lighthouse continues. Restored to its past glory, Eagle Bluff Lighthouse is a tribute to the keepers who kept the lamp burning on many a dark and stormy night. Next, we will get to spend some time in the quaint village of Fish Creek followed by one of the best fish boils in Door County! We have chosen a traditional setting dating back to the 1900’s. Tonight we are guests at the Peninsula Players Theatre, America’s oldest resident summer theater. Its history is as captivating as the plays staged at the theater during the past 90 years, and it began simply with “two planks and a passion.” Our show is Murder Girl, a funny and clever Wisconsin whodunnit. At Marty’s Supper Club in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, the Old Fashioneds are mixed, the Packer game is on, and the secrets run deep. Twins Eric and LeeAnn are trying to keep the business alive when a shocking revelation from one of their employees sparks new questions about a missing girl and a past that refuses to stay buried. Full of suspense, small-town gossip, and Midwestern heart, this sharply funny mystery will have everyone guessing until the final moments.
