Welcome to the city where America was born! We’ll check into our hotel in the historic district Philadelphia. This evening join us for a welcome dinner at a local favorite restaurant.

2. Philadelphia
Breakfast is served at the hotel before we explore the “City of Brotherly Love” with the help of an expert guide. See the famous landmarks and learn more about our nation’s heritage in Philadelphia. Sights include the Betsy Ross House, Franklin Court and Elfreth’s Alley-the oldest street in the original 13 Colonies. Lunch is served at famous Willy & Duffy’s Philly Grill, famous for their Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. This afternoon tour Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Later see one of our most beloved symbols of American freedom?the Liberty Bell. Enjoy some free time this afternoon with a chance to visit the National Constitution Center. Other may choose to take an optional carriage ride through the city. Dinner is on your own to choose from the many great restaurants of Philadelphia.

3. Lancaster
After breakfast visit the beautiful Longwood Gardens, the former country estate of industrialist Pierre S. du Pont. We’ll spend the rest of the day in Lancaster County, to experience Amish and Mennonite lifestyles up close. We’ll welcome our Mennonite host, who will take us on an interersting and personal tour. Meet an Amish farmer and learn how they farm with their horse teams to harvest their crops. Take some time to browse the shops in Kitchen Kettle Village. Stop in the Candle Barn, where you’ll see crafters hand-dipping candles or maybe the Garnett Pottery to watch the art of “throwing a pot”. After lunch, we’ll visit The People’s Place Quilt Museum for a look at antique Amish quilts. This evening we will check into our hotelin Hershey for 3 nights.

4. Gettysburg
Today you’ll visit the grounds where North fought South, and the tide of the Civil War turned for the Union. Visit the Gettysburg Museum during a interesting tour of the battlefield. Visit the National Cemetery and see the spot where Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. Later step back in time for a spectacular dining experience at Dobbin House Tavern. Built in 1776, this Colonial eatery is the oldest building in Gettysburg. Return to the hotel for a restful evening.

5. Hershey/Bird-in-Hand
Our first stop will be the Sturgis Pretzel House in Lititz, where we’ll see how these tasty snacks are rolled, cut and shaped.
Then onto Hershey’s Chocolate World-the sweetest place on Earth! Lunch will be on your own at Lebbie’s Eatery & Pub. Continue to Bird-in-Hand, a charming town surrounded by rolling Amish farmlands. Enjoy a family-style meal at the Plain & Fancy Farm restaurant. Later we’ll get an intimate look at Amish life through the critically acclaimed film Jacob’s Choice. See and hear the dramatic tale about an Amish family’s struggle to preserve its traditions in the modern world.

Day 6 Valley Forge/Philadelphia
After breakfast we head to Valley Forge National Park. Vibrant foliage and scenic vistas make the hardships of Valley Forge difficult to imagine. You’ll begin to realize the sacrifices General George Washington and the Continental Army made during the winter of 1777-78. History comes to life when costumed guides take us on a tour of Washington’s headquarters. Our farewell lunch will be at the Freedom’s Foundation, an organization devoted to teaching the rights and responsibilities of being an American citizen today. Return to Philadelphia and catch our flight for home.
