Day 2 – Memphis

Good morning Graceland! Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before our day of exploring this legendary estate begins! We’ll start off learning about the personal side of Elvis Presley with an interactive iPad tour of the Graceland Mansion, hosted by John Stamos and featuring commentary and stories by Elvis and his daughter, Lisa Marie. Graceland is so much more than a mansion. It was the private retreat of the King of Rock ‘n Roll. It was where his family grew up, spent their time together and enjoyed life. Our tour includes the living room, his parents’ bedroom, the kitchen, TV room, pool room, the famous Jungle Room, his father’s office, the newly-enhanced Trophy Building, the Racquetball Building – newly-restored to how it looked in 1977, and the Meditation Garden. Besides gathering for authentic Memphis BBQ fare at Vernon’s Smokehouse at Graceland for lunch, the remainder of the morning and afternoon are free for immersing yourself in Elvis’ life and legacy. See his private jets, his amazing collection of gold and platinum records, his stagewear including jumpsuits, his favorite automobiles including his iconic Pink Cadillac, and so much more! At Elvis Presley’s Memphis Entertainment Complex, you can follow the life path that Elvis took, surround yourself with the things that he loved, and experience the sights and sounds of the city that inspired him. Don’t forget to visit Elvis Discovery Exhibits that showcase Elvis’ influences, important facets of his incredible life, and his role in launching a music and pop culture revolution. Later this afternoon we depart Graceland for Memphis’ iconic Peabody Hotel, which opened in 1869 and is world-famous for its five resident Mallard ducks, who march daily to the lobby’s fountain. Just wait until you hear the story that started this tradition nearly 90 years ago! R&J has reserved space on the Mezzanine Level, providing the best view of the Duck March! Then, no trip to Memphis is complete without a trip to Beale Street, and no trip to Beale Street is complete without a stop at Alfred’s on Beale. Here, we’ll experience true Southern Hospitality with a tasty BBQ dinner.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 – Memphis

Breakfast is served at the hotel. The Home of the Blues comes alive today with the help of our local guide, who is a professional Beale Street musician, who will play and sing selections from the city’s rich musical heritage, while entertaining us with comedy, history, and behind-the-scenes stories of our favorite Memphis personalities. Along the way, we will see Beale Street, The Lorraine Motel, Cotton Row, Historic Central Gardens, Stax Studio, the early homes of Elvis, B.B. King, and Johnny Cash, and much more! Plus we’ll experience a guided tour of Sun Studio, the studio that launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, B.B. King, Howlin’ Wolf, Roy Orbison…the list goes on and on! Get your photo taken at the microphone where Elvis recorded or next to Jerry Lee’s piano! We’ll also visit the Overton Park Shell Green Room Exhibit. The Shell is the legendary site of Elvis Presley’s first ever professional gig, Johnny Cash’s first large show, important civil rights and historic preservation actions, and legendary concerts from the big band era to the early rock & roll era, from the Country Blues era to the classic rock era, up to the current era, where many “’modern” acts keep The Shell’s legacy alive. Lunch is on your own in Overton Square. This afternoon we’ll head to the Rock ’n’ Soul Museum, which tells the story of the musical pioneers who overcame racial and socio-economic obstacles to create the music that changed the cultural complexion of the world. Next stop is Old Dominick’s for an interesting tour of this 150-year-old distillery. We’ll learn the history of Old Dominick Distillery and their founder Domenico Canale, we’ll experience an up-close view of their extensive grain to glass craft distilling facility, and we’ll enjoy a curated tasting of Old Dominick’s portfolio of spirits. After a full day, dinner and the evening is on your own to enjoy.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Day 4 – Memphis

Another delicious breakfast is enjoyed at the hotel this morning. Then it’s time to discover Memphis’ rich history, musical heritage, and Southern cuisine on a comprehensive morning tour. We’ll take in all the highlights of downtown Memphis, from the Blues bars of Beale Street and the Orpheum Theatre, to the site where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated and one of Elvis’ early apartments. Next we’ll tour the National Civil Rights Museum, giving us a chance to walk through history and learn more about a tumultuous and inspiring period of change. For lunch, we’ll head to Beale St. where there’s plenty of tasty options to enjoy on your own. We’ll follow this up with a walking tour of famous Beale Street, the heart and soul of Memphis! Afterwards, we’ll tour the Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum. A walk through this antebellum home is a journey through history. As we descend the stairs into the dark, damp cellar and peer through the trapdoors and hidden passages where the fugitives were harbored, we’ll get a glimpse of what the daring escapes entailed for those who were determined to break the chains of slavery! Then we return to the hotel to freshen up before a farewell dinner at Marlowe’s, another mouth-watering BBQ experience!

Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
