Day 1 – Home to Augusta, ME

Our spectacular Nova Scotia journey begins when we board our flight to Boston and make our way north to Augusta for the night.

Day 2 – Augusta to Saint John, NB

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll travel into New Brunswick, Canada, going through Bangor, the home of Paul Bunyan. We’ll arrive in the city of Saint John, situated along the north shore of the Bay of Fundy. This evening, we’ll cruise the Saint John and Kennebecasis Rivers, enjoying a light onboard dinner along with the awesome sights and rivers’ incredible scenery as we cruise. Our hotel this evening will be the lovely Holiday Inn Express

Day 3 – Saint John to Digby, NS

Today a local guide joins us, helping us discover Saint John and its history, as well as our first close-up look at the Bay of Fundy, home of the world’s highest tides. Saint John is known as the anchor of the Bay of Fundy experience. Later, we’ll board our ferry and make our way across the bay to Digby, Nova Scotia, famous for the Digby Scallops. We’ll check into the Digby Pines Golf Resort & Spa where a luxurious dining experience awaits in their Churchill’s Restaurant – Digby Scallops anyone?! The evening is free to enjoy the resort’s amenities, like their gothic-style outdoor heated pool, lawn croquet, shuffleboard, and a wooded hiking trail to the beach!

Day 4 – Digby to Halifax, NS

A local step on guide will join us today as we follow the Evangeline Trail along the west coast and up through the Annapolis Valley, which is blessed by more sunshine than anywhere else in Nova Scotia. Take in the charming coastal villages reflecting Acadian French history that dot the shoreline. Our first chance to see the extraordinary impact of the tides of the Bay of Fundy is in quaint Halls Harbour. We’ll visit the Grand Pre Historic Park, a historic site depicting the story of the expulsion of the Acadians, immortalized in Longfellow’s tragic romance “Evangeline.” Then we will enjoy a delicious lunch together at a wonderful country winery overlooking the Gaspereau Valley. Then we continue to sightsee the city of Halifax. From atop Citadel Hill, observe Halifax’s famous, bustling harbor where ships have come and gone for many years. Halifax is the resting place for many Titanic victims, giving us a chance to pay our respects at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery. We will also see the infamous site & hear the remarkable story of the Halifax Explosion of 1917.

Day 5 – Halifax

This morning our local guide joins us again. First we’ll travel the Lighthouse Route and continue on to the lovely seaport village of Lunenburg, the famous shipbuilding and fishing center of Canada. We’ll spot countless islands and coves before arriving in Lunenburg and visit the famous Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic for a tour and a tasty lunch together. We’ll be sure to stop for an awe-inspiring stroll along the water’s edge. Our afternoon will take us out to famous Peggy’s Cove, a quaint little fishing village which stands on a solid rock that offers sweeping coastal views. Tonight enjoy a relaxing evening on your own.

Day 6 – Halifax to Baddeck, NS

We’ll travel the “Road to the Isles” over the Canso Strait to Cape Breton Island. We’ll see Bras d’Or Lake, a beautiful inland sea. Later we will visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Museum which houses Bell’s most remarkable collection of early inventions. Our hotel is located in the heart of Baddeck, a scenic village reflecting the atmosphere of old Scotland. Dinner will be at the Inn.

Day 7 – Baddeck

This morning our local guide joins us as we head out for the day. Brace yourself for some of the most breathtaking scenery as we take one of the world’s most scenic drives. The Cabot Trail winds through Cape Breton Highlands National Park, past majestic rock bluffs and through deep stream-lined valleys. We’ll stop along the way at Flora’s gift shop with hand-crafted goods made by the local Acadian French artists in their native traditions. Lunch will be on your own at Pleasant Bay along the beautiful Cabot Trail before we continue exploring Cape Breton Island with many photo stops along the way. Dinner will be served at the Inn tonight.

Day 8 – Baddeck to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

We’ll ferry to the birthplace of Canada, Prince Edward Island, where unspoiled beauty abounds on this peaceful isle – a favorite summer resort destination. A sunny day on Prince Edward Island is like nowhere else on earth! This afternoon a local step-on guide will join us in Charlottetown. We’ll admire lovely Victorian homes and gardens as we tour this historic capital city. Enjoy a visit to the Prince Edward Island Preserve Company & hear how it all began. Prince Edward Island is famous for its lobster, so what better place to learn about the fishing industry in North Rustico before enjoying a maritime lobster dinner this evening at The Fisherman’s Wharf! Our elegant accommodations for the next two nights is the historic Holman Grand Hotel in the heart of Charlottetown.

Day 9 – Charlottetown

Enjoy exploring Charlottetown on your own this morning. Our hotel’s prime downtown location makes it easy for shopping and finding lunch. Then we are once again joined by our local step-on guide for the afternoon. Discover Green Gables, the literary home of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s “Anne of Green Gables.” Visiting the Museum, touring the Green Gables House, walking the Haunted Woods and Lover’s Lane will bring this classic to life! Our continued tour of this lovely island will display the magnificent beaches of Prince Edward Island National Park and the rich farmlands of red soil and rolling hillsides with the beautiful Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop. After an evening meal we’ll be guests at a Ceilidh (house party)!

Day 10 – Charlottetown to St. Andrews, NB

Departing the island, we’ll cross the Northumberland Strait on the Confederation Bridge which spans the island and New Brunswick. Take some time to browse in the local shops and visitor center of the Gateway Village just below the Confederation Bridge. We’ll follow the Kennebecasis River Valley to Saint John, where we may see the amazing Reversing Falls. This phenomenon is caused when the tide off the Bay of Fundy reverses the flow of the St. Johns River 80 miles up stream. Arriving in beautiful St. Andrews by the Sea, we’ll check into the grand Algonquin Resort! Dinner will be on your own in one of the resort’s restaurants or select one along the waterfront in the downtown village.

Day 11 – St. Andrews to Bar Harbor, ME

Embark on a fascinating nature boat cruise along the coastline enroute to Campobello Island, the place where Franklin D. Roosevelt’s summer cottage is set. Then we depart for a wonderful lunch at Helen’s where we will thoroughly enjoy their specialty: pie! Later depart for Bar Harbor, which is graced with quaint shops, galleries, and picturesque vistas. Dinner & the evening are on your own to enjoy our hotel’s prime location right on Frenchman Bay.

Day 12 – Bar Harbor to Portland, ME

Visit Acadia National Park and Mt. Desert Island, which offers lovely harbors and coves perfectly nestled among forested lands, then drive the summit of Cadillac Mountain for a spectacular view of the rugged coast. Before leaving Bar Harbor, we’ll enjoy lunch on our own, then we make our way to Portland for the evening. A farewell dinner is served at Saltwater Grille in their charming Seawatch Room, with its cathedral ceilings, three walls of bay windows, and private balcony that all overlook stunning Casco Bay!

Day 13 – Portland to Home

After a good night’s rest and breakfast, we’ll catch our flight home, savoring our fantastic memories of Nova Scotia in Autumn!
