New York City is one of those amazing places that you have to experience in person to get the full taste. Our first Subway Safari was so successful that we are heading back again in 2012! Join us as we see the “Big Apple” like the native New Yorkers do. We will travel via subways and on foot to see New York City in a special and exciting way.
Day 1 – Home to New York City
Today we depart for New York City, where upon arrival we’ll be transported to our hotel, the Manhattan at Times Square, just blocks from Times Square. We are now in the midst of this exciting city and ready for our adventure to begin. After checking in, we will take our first journey on foot, learning how to navigate this amazing city and seeing some special sites close to our hotel. Later, after we find a bite to eat, we will take in a spectacular Broadway production.

Day 2 & 3 – New York City
Each morning our New York City Guide will meet us at our hotel and we will venture out on our safari. Both days will be packed with adventure and plenty to see. Make sure you have your walking shoes on…we’ll take care of the rest! Our two days will include: Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Wall Street, World Trade Site, the Brooklyn Bridge, St. John the Divine Cathedral, a walk through Central Park, a visit to Harlem, spectacular 5th Avenue, Grand Central Terminal, and many other special “Districts of Manhattan.”
Day 4 – New York City to Home
We’ll walk a few blocks to Rockefeller Center and travel upwards 76 stories to the “Top of the Rock” where we will get an amazing visual of all that we have taken in the last couple of days. Later we will board our bus and travel to the airport for our late afternoon flight home. You will be exhilarated (and a little tuckered out) from your “Subway Safari” but you will be taking home with you the memories of a great trip to NYC!
HOW MUCH WALKING WILL WE DO?
This tour is based on our ability as a group to walk through the “Concrete Jungle.” Please note that we will walk between 3 and 5 miles each day! The distance will not be all at one time, but it could be up to a mile at a time. We don’t want to discourage anyone from joining us on this tremendous trip, but we do want you to be aware of the physical expectations. If you have questions, please call our office and talk to one of our safari experts!
A WORD ABOUT MEALS:
When we are experiencing NYC like the locals experience it, we will be eating like many of them do… “on the run.” That means it’s hard for us to plan group times for meals. Therefore, meals are not included on this trip, allowing you to choose the type of local food that you will enjoy the most and in the price range that you choose.
Our safari will be led by a New York savvy R&J Tour Director and a “native New Yorker” who knows the concrete Jungle like the back of his hand. The trail will blanket the Island of Manhattan. We will travel via bus, underground in the subway, and walk through the concrete canyons and the few green oases we can find. It will be an educational, inspiring, exciting, and exhilarating journey.
