Hit Mystery Tour Revealed!

 

Day 1 – Home to Atlanta, GA

Our Sweet & Stately Revealed adventure begins today as we fly to Atlanta, Georgia. Our first stop is the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site for a self-guided walking tour. MLK Jr., a Baptist Minister, became the most recognized spokesperson and leader of the Civil Rights Movement. See the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, visit the Visitor Center, MLK Jr’s birthplace home, Doctor King’s tomb, the Freedom Hall at the King Center, and much more. Afterwards, a historic and soulful dining experience is in store at Paschal’s Restaurant, located in downtown’s Castleberry Hill Arts District.

Day 2 – Atlanta

This morning after breakfast we’ll discover all the wonders of the ocean at the Georgia Aquarium! Enjoy exploring at your own pace. Be sure you take in the dolphin and sea lion show! Up next, for lunch on your own, we have chosen a fun-filled dining experience for you at The Varsity, the world’s largest drive-in restaurant! This afternoon we will visit the Atlanta History Center, featuring 33-acres of award-winning exhibits, a historic home, and lovely gardens. Tonight partake in the Drury’s Kickback Reception, which is a complete light meal.

Day 3 – Atlanta to Macon to Atlanta

We depart after breakfast for Macon, a graceful city with azaleas, dogwoods, and more than 200,000 Yoshino cherry trees. A step-on guide will recount tales of Macon’s colorful history. We’ll travel into surrounding neighborhoods to view beautiful architecture and areas that showcase why Macon is thriving today with its music history. Visiting Macon’s state-of-the-art Visitor Center will enhance our appreciation of this charming city. Then we’ll walk two blocks to downtown Macon where plenty of wonderful options are available for lunch. Next we’re treated to a tour of the 1855 Hay House. One of Georgia’s most historic houses and distinguished structures, this 18,000 sq. ft. Italian Renaissance Revival style mansion spans four levels and is crowned by a two-story cupola. Touring this lovely and impressive home, we’ll learn about its technological amenities were unsurpassed in the mid-19th century. In 1969 a revolution was launched from the streets of Macon when the Allman Brothers Band introduced Southern Rock music to America. This changed the course of popular American music and turned Macon into the recording hot bed of the 1970s. Visiting their museum located inside The Big House, where the band members and their families lived until 1973, we’ll learn all about the Allman Brothers Band’s magic. It’s time for dinner and a delicious southern meal is in store at S&S Cafeteria.

Day 4 – Atlanta

After breakfast we’ll step back in time to the golden era of the movie palace at the Fox Theatre! Our tour will take us through Ancient Egypt and the Middle East while learning about the history of the Shriner Organization and movie mogul William Fox. See why the city of Atlanta cried out to “Save the Fox!” from the wrecking ball in the 1970s and fall in love with the theatre under a canopy of stars. Next we’ll learn all about our 39th President, his family, and his presidency at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library & Museum. We’ll head to Ponce City Market, a converted historic Sears building, now a market with a food hall & shops for lunch on your own and some free time. This afternoon we’ll have the chance to rest & refresh at the hotel. Enjoy the Drury’s Kickback Reception before we head back to the historic Fox Theatre, this time as guests for their Broadway production of “The Sound of Music!” A tuneful, heartwarming story, it is based on the real-life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world’s best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. This Rodgers & Hammerstein masterpiece will come alive in this beautiful theatre and in our hearts!

Day 5 – Atlanta to Dahlonega, GA

We will depart Atlanta after breakfast. Our first stop is in the Nacoochee Valley at the Hardman Farm State Historic Site for a guided tour. One of the farm’s best-known features is gazebo-topped Sautee Nacoochee Indian Mound. We’ll also tour the old dairy barn, spring house, horse barn, and the 1870 grand Italianate architecture house. Then into the mountains of Northeast Georgia we go! What will we find? A charming, cobblestone-lined Bavarian Alpine village! The smells and sights will delight our senses as we enjoy lunch and shopping on our own in downtown Helen. Just a few minutes down the road, nestled at the foot of the Sautee Nacoochee Valley, we’ll find historic Nacoochee Village. A hub of commerce for over a century, and today, Nacoochee Village businesses continue that legacy by providing a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. One of Nacoochee Village’s treasures is the Nora Mill Granary, that was established in 1876 and is still an operational gristmill! Utilizing the original 1,500-pound French Burr Mill Stones powered by the Chattahoochee River, they grind and produce corn and wheat-based products. We’ll have the opportunity to sample their ground grits, cornmeal, and pioneer’s porridge. A stop in the Nora Mill General Store is a must! There will be leisure time to visit the Habersham Vineyards & Winery, and to grab a coffee at JumpinGoat Coffee Roasters to savor as you browse the Nacoochee Village Antique Mall that’s housed in the 1876 Martin House. Then we’ll take a scenic drive to the quaint Appalachian town of Dahlonega where we’ll check into our hotel for the night. We’re treated to a delicious family-style dinner this evening at the historic Smith House.

Day 6 – Dahlonega to Home

Breakfast is served before we check out and head to the Crisson Gold Mine for an interesting guided tour through the mine. Gold was first discovered at this mining site in 1847! We’ll view an informative video as well as the stamping mill. Then we’ll get to pan for gold and gems. Discover any gems? Their gift shop can cut your gems and turn them into jewelry. Then it’s time to head to the airport for our flight home. Our Sweet & Stately experiences have turned into grand memories!
