Day 2 – Winnipeg
This morning enjoy an included breakfast at the hotel before a local guide joins us as we explore this beautiful city with its cosmopolitan and unique sights. We’ll visit beautiful Assiniboine Park, boasting 376 acres of lawns, trees, and a beautiful English Garden. Sights include the Historic Exchange District, the “French Quarter” with the St. Boniface Cathedral, and we’ll have some free time at the Forks, Winnipeg’s number one tourist destination, located at the junction of the Assiniboine & mighty Red Rivers. A meeting place for over 6,000 years for early Aboriginal trading, fur trading, Scottish settlers, and tens of thousands of immigrants. Rich in history and natural beauty, it now has an array of dining and shopping experiences. Ever wanted to visit Churchill and see the polar bears? We will have an opportunity to visit the new exhibit “Journey to Churchill” at the Assiniboine Park Zoo, a unique and inviting destination where warm spaces welcome you as you come face to face with polar bears. Inside the Sea Ice Passage, you will be thrilled by polar bears and ringed seals swimming overhead and darting amongst the ice. We’ll return to the hotel and freshen up before we’re off to Shaw Park, a state-of-the-art ballpark located along the Red River. There will be time to enjoy something to eat from the variety of concession stands. Tonight we will watch our very own St Paul Saints take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes!

We begin our day by driving north to Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site. Experience North America’s only restored stone fort from the fur trade era, at this original Hudson’s Bay Company post. Following lunch served at the Fort, we leave for Gimli to learn about Manitoba’s earliest settlers – the Vikings! We stop at the New Iceland Heritage Museum to learn about Gimli’s beginnings as New Iceland.
