Day 1 – Home to Colorado Springs
Fly to the Colorado Rockies! Check into your hotel for a relaxing two night stay. Tonight we will enjoy a get acquainted dinner as we prepare for our railroading experience.

Day 2 – Colorado Springs
Depart for Manitou Springs and experience Pikes Peak which forms a stunning backdrop for Colorado Springs and the Garden of the Gods. It is the farthest east of the big peaks in the Rocky Mountain chain, which contributed to its early fame among explorers, pioneers, and immigrants and made it the symbol of the 1859 Gold Rush to Colorado with the slogan, “Pikes Peak or Bust”. Your best views will come from a ride on the Cog Railway to the top. Lunch will be included at the Garden of the God’s Trading Post. Visit Garden of the Gods featuring red rock formations and breathtaking views of Pikes Peak, it was marked on the National Register for Historic places in 1979. This evening dinner will be on your own.

Day 3 – Colorado Springs to Alamosa
Enjoy breakfast before we depart for Canon City. Board the Royal Gorge Railroad for a 24-mile journey beneath Royal Gorge Bridge. This ride will afford some of the most spectacular scenery your eyes will ever see! Visit Royal Gorge Park, affording breathtaking views from the highest suspension bridge in the world, rising 1,053 feet above the rapids of the Arkansas River. Ride the Aerial Tram across the gorge or take the Incline Railway to the bottom of the canyon. After a fabulous day in the Royal Gorge area, we drive to Alamosa, Colorado for our overnight stay.

Day 4 – Alamosa to Durango
Motor to Antonito and board the famous Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. This train runs between Antonito, Colorado and Chama, New Mexico. The track was originally laid in 1880 by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. Chama today is a small village, but considered hallowed ground by many railfans. Chama houses one of the most physically complete railroad yards in the country. The railroad yard still has the feel of 1960 and earlier. We will board our motorcoach in Chama and drive to Durango, an old romantic mining town.

Day 5 – Durango to Palisade
Board The Silverton, the last scheduled narrow gauge railroad in the United States. This 1881 coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive was built to haul silver and gold ore, and today it will carry you along the breathtaking canyons of the La Plata and San Juan Mountains. See breathtaking scenery as we wind around mountain peaks, canyon walls, and rushing streams enroute to Silverton, once a bustling mining town in the 1870s. Nestled in the San Juan Mountains, Silverton is a national historic landmark. Take time to explore Silverton’s historic architecture built between 1882 and 1910 during Silverton’s boom time. Motor on the million-dollar highway over Red Mountain Pass of the San Juan Mountains to Palisade. Spend two nights at the exceptional Wine Country Inn where you can stroll through the working vineyards that surround the inn, an 80-room Victorian style hotel, which sits in the middle of 21 acres of vines!

Day 6 – Palisade
After breakfast we make our way to Grand Junction. Drive the spectacular Colorado National Monument offering sweeping views of the canyon. Drive through lovely orchard country with a stop at one of the orchards for a tour and opportunity to shop. Dinner is included at Wine Country Inn tonight.

Day 7 – Palidase to Denver
This morning board the Amtrak train for a full day of scenic railing through the Colorado Rockies from Grand Junction to Denver.

Day 8 – Denver
We’ll make our way to nearby Georgtown and board the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Finished in 1884 for the Colorado Central Railway to transport silver in and out of the region, this breathtaking stretch of narrow gauge railroad is an engineering marvel, featuring several horseshoe curves and bridges including the Devil’s Gate High Bridge. Lunch will be on your own at historic downtown Georgetown. Return to Denver for a tour of the mile high city nestled at the foot of the Rockies. We’ll enjoy a tour of Molly Brown’s house. Tonight you are guests at a farewell dinner.

Day 9 – Denver to Home
After an included breakfast we’ll catch our flight for home.
