Day 1 – Home to Mount Rainier

Day 2 – Mount Rainier to Sunnyside, WA
This morning take some time for a walk or hike up one of the paths near the lodge. The flowers will be in bloom and the mountain air will be filled with the sound of birds as you enjoy this beautiful start to your day. We will grab an early light lunch before we begin our travels down the mountain and into the Yakima River Valley. Once in the valley we will take in the sights of lush farmland and orchards that supply many of your delicious apples! We’ll travel to the little town of Toppenish, WA where a local guide will join us and share information about farming everything from apples to hops to mint that is grown in this region. We will also take some time to view some of the 70+ murals in the town of Toppenish before we check into the Best Western GrapeVine Inn for a restful night.
Hotel: Best Western GrapeVine Inn
Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 3 – Sunnyside to Nampa, ID
After breakfast, we travel a short distance to the “Tri-Cities” area of Washington. Here at the confluence of the Yakima, Snake and Columbia Rivers there is plenty of history to spend our time learning about. First stop will be the CREHST museum where many different displays will catch your attention, one of them being a display about “The Manhattan Project.” Yes, it was just up the river a bit from here that the Atomic Bomb was worked on as it was prepared for a weapon of mass destruction in WWII. After time spent at the museum, we will travel just outside of town to the Sacajawea State Park on the banks of the Columbia River. A Lewis and Clark expedition museum is located here, providing us a great opportunity to learn about this area and the explorer’s two day stop here. Later today we continue our journey and travel to Nampa, Idaho where we will spend the night.
Hotel: Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Nampa, ID
Included Meals: Breakfast
Day 4 – Nampa to Twin Falls, ID
This morning we will board our luxury motorcoach and feel extra pampered as we remember those early pioneers who traveled the Oregon Trail and crossed the Snake River at “Three Island Crossing.” This famous crossing will be our first stop today where we will see first-hand the struggle that these pioneers faced on their journey west. Nearby, lunch will be served at Carmella Vineyards. This afternoon we continue our journey down the “Thousand Spring Scenic Byway” stopping at a Trout Hatchery and enjoy some spectacular views of the Snake River Gorge. Later we arrive in Twin Falls, ID where we will experience the beauty of the Snake River Gorge and also a bit of history as we recall the daredevil Evil Knievel and his attempted jump of this canyon in 1974. This evening will be at your leisure to enjoy the views from high above the river and have dinner on your own near our hotel.
Hotel: Holiday Inn Express, Twin Falls, ID
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Day 5 – Twin Falls to Ely, NV
Today we travel south into Nevada and Utah. Our first stop will be in Wendover at the Wendover Air Field Museum where we will learn about this area’s part in the bombing of Japan during WWII. The flight crew of the Enola Gay trained here secretly for months before their mission. We are right on the Salt Flats so we’ll take the motorcoach out and attempt a new land speed record for tour coaches filled with passengers! OK…just kidding, but we will learn the history of speed records being attempted and set on the flats! This afternoon we travel to Ely, Nevada and our evening’s stay.
Hotel: LaQuinta Hotel, Ely, NV
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Day 6 – Ely to Las Vegas, NV
Before we leave Ely this morning, we will take time to learn about this old mining town and take a look at the 6-story Hotel Nevada, which at one time was the tallest building in Nevada! Then we cross desert land between mountain ranges as we travel towards Las Vegas. Our lunch stop will be in the small railroad town of Calientea. This afternoon we will check into the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino for our last evening’s stay. You’ll be free to enjoy the nightlife of Las Vegas from the hotel, conveniently located on “The Strip.”
