Day 2 – Galveston
This morning after breakfast we’ll visit Galveston’s 28,000 square-foot, four-story Moody Mansion. This historic home was completed in 1895 and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1994 and a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark since 1967. The Moodys established one of the great American financial empires. Based on cotton, it grew to include banking, ranching, insurance, newspaper publishing, railroading, and hotels. As we tour the Mansion, we’ll explore 20 rooms depicting the home life of this powerful Texas family. As we continue to learn about Galveston, we will visit the Galveston Railroad Museum, which traces its roots back to the 1896 depot and headquarters built by the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railway. The depot and facility grew with the railroad, and by 1932 the company built the current art deco depot. Lunch will be served at a great deli right in the heart of historic Galveston. This afternoon we will tour this historic and vibrant city via a prototype of the famed 1908 Ford Model-T. This golf cart vehicle truly pays homage to Henry Ford, retaining much of his noble and charming vision – what fun! Dinner and the evening are on your own.

We will get the opportunity to eat the fresh catch of the day as the fisherman will catch it in the morning and we will enjoy it for lunch! Our reservation is right on the water, overlooking the very boats that went out to get our fish. We will then get out on the water ourselves and see Galveston Harbor up close aboard the Seagull II during out Historic Harbor Tour and Dolphin Watch cruise. Fast, stable, and sheltered, she was built specifically for harbor sight-seeing excursions and education and is a perfect platform for waterborne experiential learning. Returning, we will visit the Tall Ship Elissa for a self-guided tour. Launched in 1877, this three-masted barque is one of the oldest ships still sailing.
