Soon we reach Watford City, ND, the heart of some of the oil exploration, where we pick up our step-on guide who will show us some of the interesting facets of the oil industry. Our noon lunch will be at Tobacco Gardens Restaurant with a unique history of the “oil boom/bust” in the area. Once back in Medora, we explore “Chateau de Mores” and learn about the founding and history of Medora. Tonight our dinner will be a catered dinner at the Schaefer Center on the patio!

Day 3 – Medora
After a great breakfast buffet we set out to explore Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Find out why Teddy Roosevelt loved this region and helped to create a national park to preserve it. The vast North Dakota prairies, rivers, and badlands are home to a wide variety of native wildlife such as herds of bison, elk, bighorn sheep, bald and golden eagles, meadowlarks, burrowing owls, prairie dogs, and several bands of wild horses. During the summer months, bands of Mustangs may be seen grazing on the upland plateaus in the park, where they can enjoy the cooling winds and lush grasses. Today, Theodore Roosevelt National Park is one of the few areas in the West where free-roaming horses may be readily observed. There is nothing quite like the site of a stallion silhouetted high on a ridge protecting its herd! Spend some time this afternoon exploring the intriguing western hamlet of Medora with its unique shopping and several great museums at no cost. Also the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame is available for a nominal fee. A one hour performance of “Salute to Medora” provides entertaining insight into Medora’s colorful history. Theodore Roosevelt comes to life in this vivid new presentation. Learn about him as President, husband, father, soldier, and hunter. Much of this new show also focuses on Teddy’s time right here in the North Dakota Badlands. And now for the main event: The nationally acclaimed Pitchfork Steak Fondue is an absolute delight. Every evening chefs load steaks onto pitchforks and fondue them western style right before your eyes. Savor your steak as you overlook the picturesque Badlands from atop a bluff at the Tjaden Terrace. Your steak comes with all of the fixin’s. Plus, you’ll be serenaded with western melodies performed live by members of The Coal Diggers from the Medora Musical. Following dinner is the all new Medora Musical. Enjoy family entertainment while in the outdoor splendor of the North Dakota Badlands in the 2,852 seat Burning Hills Amphitheater. This professionally produced, high energy, western style musical is proudly dedicated to the legacy of America’s 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt, and the time he spent here in North Dakota’s Badlands. Each show pays tribute to American patriotism and the Old West. Audiences are treated to an exciting array of songs performed by the Burning Hills Singers and accompanied by the on-stage band, the Coal Diggers. The Medora Musical also features nationally known variety acts, live horses on stage and a gospel tribute.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 4 – Medora
Another hearty breakfast buffet prepares us for our adventures today. Just a short drive west of Medora is Father Cassedy’s ranch for needy boys and girls, the nationally acclaimed Home on the Range. In a truly authentic setting we have the privilege of witnessing the ranch’s 63rd annual Champions Ride Saddle Bronc Rodeo. An exclusive orientation tour of the ranch, lunch in the Home on the Range kitchen, and special reserved seating for the rodeo has all been arranged for our group. This will truly be an unequaled experience you will want to share with family and friends when you return. We return to Medora this afternoon to just relax, have dinner on our own, and enjoy time reflecting on our time in North Dakota.
