We’ll start our day with breakfast in Keflavik, inside the Viking World Museum (Vikingaheimar). Then we’ll take a short sightseeing drive around Reykjanes Peninsula before heading to the famous Blue Lagoon where we can bathe in its rejuvenating waters and dine in style at their Lava Restaurant. Maybe a little quiet time after we check into our hotel and before we gather once more for a welcome dinner with our travel companions.

Day 3 – Reykjavik area

Today we will enjoy a sightseeing tour of Reykjavik. Unique shops, buildings, and history of Rekjavik and the surrounding areas are highlighted today with our Icelandic guide. Step inside Hallgrimskirja, the Church of Iceland, in downtown Rekjavik. At 244 feet tall, it is the tallest church in Iceland. Lunch is at the unique restaurant Perlan, built on water tanks that hold the city’s hot water supplies. Take advantage of the spectacular views of the city and surrounding area as you dine. The Perlan building is also home to their own Museum & Planetarium where we might get a chance to see their Northern Lights show! This afternoon you’ll have some free time to explore at Reykjavik Center or relax at the hotel. Dinner and the evening are yours to explore.

After breakfast, we embark on the famous Golden Circle tour. Our first stop is at the National Park Thingvellir, where we can see the continental plates drifting apart and perhaps take a walk in the canyon. We’ll then continue to Deildartunguhver, a hot spring with the strongest water flow in all of Europe. Next we visit Hraunfossar, a gorgeous & serene series of waterfalls that cascade into the Hvita River over ledges of lava rock. Within walking distance is the rapid Barnafoss waterfall, which cuts through the narrow canyon. We’ll return to our hotel for a relaxing evening.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 6 – Snaefellsnes Peninsula

The Snæfellsnes Peninsula in western Iceland is almost like a miniature of the whole country. There are white and black beaches, bird cliffs, spectacular mountains, volcanic craters, incredibly rich trout lakes, salmon rivers, lush valleys, unique harbors in charming fishing villages, and a world-renowned glacier. We’ll look at stunning rock formations and teeming bird life in the lovely towns of the peninsula. Experience all the beauty with the serene and majestic Snæfellsjökull glacier serving as stunning backdrop. We’ll also visit the Bjarnarhofn Shark Museum, where we’ll get the opportunity to taste rotted shark, and learn why it is considered a delicacy in Iceland!

Day 7 – South Shore Adventure

Today will be another wonderful day in Iceland as we explore up close to a number of spectacular waterfalls. At Skogafoss, we’re able to hike close to, and up above, the impressive 203 ft drop. At Seljalandsfoss, we’ll be able to take a breathtaking hike under and behind this beautiful waterfall. At Reynisfjara Beach, we’ll experience some of the strongest and scariest waves as they crash into the black lava sands. The Skogar Folk Museum will allow us to see first-hand Icelandic history through exploring the three sites with folk relics and a model turf-house village. Check out a bit of Icelandic shopping in Vik, right across the street from our hotel for the next two nights.

Hotel: Hotel Vik (2 Nights)

Then we continue on to the breathtaking Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon for a boat ride sailing amongst icebergs of all shapes and sizes! This thrilling environment is constantly changing as the massive glacier tongue retreats further. Explore Diamond Beach, a black lava sand beach dotted with huge chunks of the Breioamerkurjokull glacier. Arrive back in Vik to enjoy dinner together.

Day 9 – South Shore with Farm Visit

A special treat will be near Reykholt, where we will explore a local farm growing tomatoes and other delicacies, along with a “meeting with an Icelandic Horse.” This is not some regular tomato farm, but a steamlined, progressive indoor tomato greenhouse where we’ll learn about their unique growing process and enjoy a lunch menu filled with tomato based items to taste and enjoy. Take a walk to the stables for an upclose look and feel of the Icelandic horses, the only breed we’ll see in all of Iceland. Later we continue our drive through the vast and beautiful, moss covered lava fields on our way back to Rekjavik for our last meal together with our new friends.
