Day 1 – Home to Dublin
Depart Mpls with an R&J Tour Director and take an overnight flight across the Atlantic. Enjoy in-flight entertainment and meal service as you travel to start your vacation.
Day 2 – Dublin to Galway / Clonmacnoise Monastic Site
After landing at Dublin Airport, complete customs and immigration formalities. Our Irish driver/guide will welcome us to Ireland and escort us and our luggage to the coach. We’ll have an included breakfast at a local restaurant and make our way to Clonmacnoise Monastic Site, a spectacular ruined monastery on the banks of the picturesque River Shannon, founded in the 6th century. After lunch on our own, we’ll continue traveling to Galway, an amazing harbor city on Ireland’s west coast that sits where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll stroll through Galway’s quaint, vibrant cobblestone streets known for their Bohemian atmosphere, medieval history, colorful streets, and lively pubs with traditional music as our guide takes us on a walking history tour. We’ll end the day with a welcome drink and dinner at the Park House Hotel, where we’ll be staying for the next two nights.

Day 3 – Galway / Connemara & Kylemore Abbey
Connemara is a region just north of Galway that is steeped in traditions. These traditions are also reflected in the language as Connemara is a Gaeltacht region, which means it’s Irish-speaking. It’s a beautiful region that has many mountains, peninsulas, coves and islands. Our travels today will include a stop at the beautiful Victorian Kylemore Abbey, which was founded for Benedictine nuns who fled Belgium in World War I. We then return to Galway for a leisure evening on our own.

Day 4 – Galway to Spanish Point / Cliffs of Moher
This morning after breakfast we’ll view the Cliffs of Moher, an impressive wall of rock which rises to a height of 700 feet above the wild Atlantic waves and stretches for a distance of about five miles along the coast. We’ll move on to the Bellbridge House Hotel at Spanish Point, where the sights, sounds, and tastes of West Clare County meet the wild beauty of the Atlantic’s edge. We’ll dine at the hotel and stay for one night.

Day 5 – Spanish Point to Killarney / Bunratty Folk Park
This morning’s drive is to the Village of Bunratty. Upon arrival, visit the Bunratty Folk Park, which comprises a collection of farm houses from different regions of Ireland and a 19th century village street with a pub, school, general store and many other buildings where traditional lifestyles and crafts are demonstrated. After this, we’ll stop in the tranquil village of Adare, famous for its attractive main street of charming thatched cottages, historic buildings, churches, and colorful gardens. We’ll stroll through the village and snap some great photos. We’ll end the day with dinner at our hotel, The Brehon Hotel, where we’ll stay for the next two nights.

Day 6 – Dingle Peninsula Drive
Today discover the beauties of the Dingle Peninsula, once described by National Geographic Traveler magazine as “the most beautiful place on earth.” On this circular route that forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way, we’ll drive along the south shore of the peninsula for plenty of vistas of heathery mountains, sandy stretches of beach, stunning green landscapes, and rocky headlands. Pause at strategic locations to admire the views and take photos. It will truly be an authentic and scenic Irish road trip experience as we continue along the stunning, dramatic southern coastline of the peninsula on Slea Head. Be awed by breathtaking views of the Atlantic, ancient forts, historic churches, and much more! We’ll have some free time in Dingle Town to explore this gem of a seaside town. Then tonight, when we get back to Killarney we’ll have the experience of seeing the Gaelic Roots Show, a magical mix of Ireland’s most beloved songs, harp music, and folk dancing.

Day 7 – Killarney to Kinsale / Blarney Castle & Woollen Mills
Today we drive through the outskirts of Cork to Blarney where we will stop at the iconic Blarney Castle, a medieval stronghold that dates back to 1446. You can climb the battlements of the castle and kiss the famous “Stone of Eloquence.” Next we’ll visit the Blarney Woollen Mills, which boasts an excellent variety of Irish products. We will also have time to browse around the village, charmingly set around a large village green. Then we’ll drive on to Kinsale and stroll through this beautiful, colorful city with our guide telling us of its amazing history. Kinsale has been a favorite for artists due to its steep, narrow streets, quirky shopfronts, and many fine Georgian houses. Dinner is served at the Actons Hotel in Kinsale where we’ll stay two nights.

Day 8 – Cobh Heritage Centre
Be sure to put your walking shoes on today as we tour the Cobh Heritage Centre, located in the former train station from which passengers embarked for the United States. The exhibition traces the history of emigration from the age of the sailing “coffin ships” during the famine years of the 1840s to the advent of steamships. After the Cobh Heritage Centre, our guide will takes us through the streets of Cork, telling us about the city’s culture and history as we soak in Cork’s unique character and local atmosphere. We’ll experience the smells and sounds of the English market, stroll the busy lanes of the 18th century Huguenot Quarter, and wonder at Burges’s magnificent French Neo-Gothic cathedral. Then back to the hotel for the evening with dinner on our own.

Day 9 – Kinsale to Dublin / Rock of Cashel
As we make our way from Kinsale to Dublin, we’ll travel into County Tipperary and visit the Rock of Cashel, a historical site located dramatically high on a limestone outcrop overlooking the countryside. The picturesque complex has a character of its own and is one of the most remarkable collections of Celtic art and medieval architecture to be found anywhere in Europe! We’ll then continue on to Dublin where we’ll stay for our final two nights.

Day 10 – Dublin / Guinness Storehouse & Trinity College
Today, set off with a local guide who will show us Dublin at its best. The city has been molded through the centuries with many architectural styles, reflecting the economic, political and artistic influences. Stop to tour Guinness Storehouse to see exhibits on how this world-famous stout was first created and why it is so popular today. Another stop at Trinity College, founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I, to see the Book of Kells, an 8th century illuminated manuscript of the gospels and see the Old Library. Return to the hotel and relax before heading to a Dublin pub. Tonight, a farewell dinner of Irish specialties at Fallon and Byrne Restaurant will be the perfect way to spend the last evening together of our Irish adventure.

Day 11 – Dublin to Home
All too soon, our vacation in Ireland has come to the end. Transfer to Dublin Airport in plenty of time to check in for our flight and clear security. Flying west across the “pond” back to the United States, reminisce about Ireland’s Southern Treasures!
