Day 1 – Home to Dubuque, IA

Our adventure begins today as we travel south to Iowa. With lunch and coffee stops along the way, this afternoon we visit the Dyer- Botsford Victorian House and Doll Museum. This beautiful Victorian mansion, home of Dyersville’s founder, is filled with over 2,000 dolls, furniture, vintage wedding dresses, a miniature hand carved circus, a rare German feather Christmas tree, & more! Then we take a short drive to Balltown to enjoy a tasty meal, complete with amazing river views, at Iowa’s oldest food and drinking establishment. Afterwards we’ll travel to Dubuque where we’ll check into the Hotel Julien Dubuque, an elegant boutique hotel that marries modern amenities with historic charm in the heart of the Old Main District, for two nights.

Included Meals: Dinner

Hotel: Hotel Julien Dubuque (2 Nights)

Day 2 – Dubuque

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll visit the National Farm Toy Museum, known as the Farm Toy Capital of the World, to experience the evolution of Iowa’s agriculture industry through small-scale farm toys. If time allows, there is an antique mall right across the street just waiting to be browsed! Next we are treated to a guided tour of the St. Francis Xavier Basilica. We’ll learn the history of this beautiful church and hear about the recent nearly $1 million interior refurbishment. A highlight will be listening to the Basilica’s Music Director perform on the grand organ as we enter! For lunch we’ll head to the Textile Brewery for a tasty meal and a tour of this microbrewery that’s located in a historic 1906 former sewing factory. Next we’ll head to the Field of Dreams movie site and their new “If You Build It” exhibit to experience the most iconic baseball field as a Ghost Player gives us the history of how Universal Studios found this location. We’ll discover stories from behind the scenes and also enjoy a house tour. Then we return to the hotel for a nice dinner followed by an evening with Diane Harris, who is well-known for her ability to portray famous people. Tonight “Mae Caprone” will join us, telling us all about her life with her husband Al, who was once rumored to own the Hotel Julien Dubuque!

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 – Dubuque to Rockford, IL

Breakfast is served at the hotel before we set out for a guided tour of historic Dubuque. We’ll learn a great history lesson on Iowa’s oldest city, view some amazing murals, stop at Eagle Point Park for an overlook of the mighty Mississippi River and Lock & Dam #11, and stroll through the beautiful Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Then we’ll have the opportunity to ride the world’s shortest and steepest railway! Have your camera ready to take in the amazing views at the top of the bluffs! Lunch is on your own to choose from one of the many delicious options in downtown. Be sure to save some room as we can’t leave town before stopping at Betty Jane Candies, whose candies have even been in Academy Award bags! We’ll enjoy a history of the candies and receive a sweet treat! This afternoon we travel to Rockford and check into our hotel before a hearty dinner is served at the Machine Shed. Afterwards we are in for a real treat as we’re guests at the Coronado Performing Arts Center to be thoroughly entertained by Darci Lynne & Friends in their “Fresh Out of The Box” tour! Singer/ Ventriloquist Darci Lynne is the youngest contestant to ever win NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” Her polished, impeccable skill as a ventriloquist at such a young age is jaw dropping, and she quickly won the hearts of America with her sweetheart disposition and undeniable talent.
