Join us on a scenic motor coach journey as we make our way from Minnesota to the heart of Canada’s capital during a beautiful time of year for the world-renowned Ottawa Tulip Festival! This unforgettable tour is bursting with history, charm, and springtime color.

 

Day 1 – Home to Escanaba, MI

Join us as we motor through the spring changes of the rolling hills of Wisconsin to Escanaba for the evening. Tonight enjoy a wonderful welcome dinner together at the historic House of Ludington, built in 1864! We’ll sleep well tonight, anticipating our bloom-filled tour!

Day 2 – Escanaba to Sudbury, ON

Our day begins with breakfast, then driving through the scenic Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where lakes and forests stretch for miles. We’ll make a brief but fascinating stop in Sault Ste. Marie to visit the Soo Locks Visitor Center, where we’ll learn about the impressive engineering that connects Lake Superior to the lower Great Lakes. Afterward, we’ll cross the border into Ontario, officially beginning the Canadian leg of our adventure. Our destination this evening is Sudbury, a northern city known for its rugged beauty and mining history. Settle in for a comfortable overnight stay, and get ready for more color and charm as we head toward Ottawa.

Day 3 – Sudbury to Ottawa, ON

This morning, we continue our drive eastward through the scenic heart of Ontario, passing forests, lakes, and charming rural towns. By afternoon, we arrive in Ottawa, Canada’s stunning capital city. Our home for the next 3 nights is the elegant and historic 1941 Lord Elgin Hotel, with its Chateau style roof. Fun fact: The hotel’s namesake was the 8th Earl of Elgin, Queen Victoria’s top representative in Canada from 1847 to 1854. To this day, a warm relationship continues between the hotel and Lord Elgin’s descendants in Scotland, including the present 11th Earl. Our hotel is ideally located in the heart of downtown Ottawa – just steps from historic landmarks, memorials, monuments, Parliament Hill, Rideau Canal, and the tulip-lined pathways of Confederation Park. This evening, we’ll gather for an elegant dinner at the hotel, being treated to fine cuisine in a warm and stylish setting. It’s the perfect way to unwind and get to know fellow travelers better.

Day 4 – Ottawa

After a hearty breakfast at the Lord Elgin Hotel, we set out to experience the breathtaking Ottawa Tulip Festival in full bloom! Stroll through vibrant displays at Commissioners Park, admire over a million tulips in every color imaginable, and soak in the sights, scents, and sounds of spring in the nation’s capital. Throughout the day, enjoy time to browse unique artisan vendors, indulge in a variety of local food options, and take in live performances and cultural exhibits scattered throughout the festival grounds. This unforgettable day concludes with a lively evening of Canadian fun at “Oh Canada, Eh!?” Dinner Show – a high-spirited performance celebrating Canadian music, history, and humor, all served alongside a delicious dinner. It’s the perfect blend of entertainment and national pride to end our day in Ottawa.

Day 5 – Ottawa

Today offers a deeper dive into the heart of Ottawa’s rich history and national pride. After breakfast, we begin with our guided tour of the impressive House of Commons, part of historic and iconic Parliament Hill. Step into Canada’s political center and marvel at the stunning Gothic Revival architecture and historic chambers where national decisions are made. Next, we visit the Royal Canadian Mint, where we’ll see how some of the world’s most beautiful coins and medals are crafted – and even hold a real gold bar! In the late afternoon, we’ll unwind with a scenic cruise along the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Drift past charming bridges, historic landmarks, and tulip-lined paths as we enjoy a fresh perspective of the city from the water. Our day concludes when the vessel drops us off at the Canal Ritz for a memorable dinner, a perfect way to celebrate our time in Ottawa.

Day 6 – Ottawa to Kingston, ON

This morning, we say farewell to Ottawa and journey south to the charming city of Kingston, Ontario, where the St. Lawrence River meets Lake Ontario. Our arrival is perfectly timed for a lunch cruise through the breathtaking 1000 Islands – a scenic archipelago known for its emerald isles, historic mansions, and tranquil waters. As we enjoy a delicious lunch onboard, we’ll take in the stories and sights of one of Canada’s most picturesque regions. After the cruise, we step back in time at Fort Henry National Historic Site. Perched high above the water, this 19th century British fort brings Canadian military history to life with engaging exhibits and panoramic views of the river below. This evening, we check in to the stylish and comfortable Delta Hotel in Kingston, which overlooks Lake Ontario and Confederation Harbour. Simply relax and enjoy views of the waterfront or stroll the nearby historic downtown.

Day 7 – Kingston to London, ON

Another exciting day awaits as we travel from Kingston to London, Ontario, with a thrilling stop in Toronto, Canada’s largest city. Midday, we head to the top of one of the country’s most iconic landmarks, the 1,815’ tall CN Tower. We’ll soar above the skyline on a high-speed elevator and take in panoramic views of Lake Ontario and downtown Toronto. Enjoy lunch with a view in the tower’s revolving restaurant, making this stop as unforgettable as the scenery. In the late afternoon, we arrive in London, where we check in to the Hampton Inn. This evening, we’re in for a treat at the Grand Theatre, which is Canada’s oldest and most celebrated performing arts venue. We’ll attend a performance of the internationally acclaimed musical “Come From Away.” Based on the true story of 7,000 airline passengers stranded in Newfoundland on 9/11, this uplifting and heartwarming production is a celebration of kindness, resilience, and the Canadian spirit. Enjoy this musical in the Grand Theatre Sit back, relax, and take in the fantastic performance, closing out a truly memorable day.

Day 8 – London to Ludington, MI

After breakfast, we depart London and head west toward the Blue Water Bridge, where we’ll cross the border back into the United States, entering Michigan once again. As we travel through scenic landscapes and charming small towns, we make our way to the beautiful lakeside community of Ludington. Here, we’ll enjoy a relaxing evening meal together, sharing stories and reflections from our Canadian adventure, and a good night’s rest.

Day 9 – Ludington to Home

Our journey concludes with a memorable ride across Lake Michigan aboard the historic SS Badger ferry. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the fresh lake air and scenic views during this classic 4-hour cruise from Ludington, MI to Manitowoc, WI. The SS Badger is a true piece of maritime history, offering comfortable lounges, viewing decks, and a relaxing start to our final travel day. Once we dock, we board our motorcoach and begin the final leg home, traveling across the rolling landscapes of the Midwest. As we return to Minnesota, we carry with us unforgettable memories – of tulips and theatre, canals and castles, and the joy of discovering new places with new friends!
