Day 1 – Home to Keystone, SD

Our journey begins as we round up all of our travelers and hit the trail headed west. We’ll cross over the plains of South Dakota, across the wide Missouri River, and past the Badland regions as we make our way to Keystone. We’ll have lots of fun on the coach as we travel along and stop for dinner before we pull into the K Bar S Lodge, nestled at the foot of the verdant Black Hills, for a three night stay. Settle in and get ready for a great day tomorrow!

Hotel: K Bar S Lodge (3 Nights)

Included Meals: Lunch

Day 2 – Touring the Black Hills

This morning we will visit Mount Rushmore and enjoy this spectacular memorial created by Gutzon Borglum to convey his meaning of America. Hike the trails, visit the museums, and enjoy this spectacular memorial. Later we will travel to Hill City where we will board an 1880 Train for a trip back in time. The old steam engine, just like those that traveled to settle the west, will take us through the beautiful Black Hills where mountains rise in the distance and deer run in the meadows. When we arrive in Keystone you will have time for lunch on your own along with some time for shopping before we head for the Big Thunder Gold Mine that was discovered in 1882 and mined until about 1920. We’ll tour the mine and then pan for some gold – who knows what you will leave the mine with!!! We will enjoy a meal together at the K Bar S Lodge. Afterwards, for those that wish, we’ll return to Mount Rushmore for the lighting ceremony.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 3 – Touring the Black Hills

Today we travel deep into Custer State Park where we will enjoy its beauty and experience a bit of its wildness. We’ll travel along a scenic drive with many switchbacks before we get onto the wildlife loop where you will want to keep your eyes open for deer, buffalo, and wild burros. We’ll have lunch at the State Park’s Blue Bell Lodge. This afternoon we’ll make a stop at Sylvan Lake and view the needle-like rocks climbing out of this beautiful lake. We continue on to Crazy Horse Memorial, a work in progress, and visit its museum which tells the story of the American Indians in this area. Then we will travel back into Custer State Park and climb aboard a wagon that takes us on a 45-minute scenic wildlife tour before stopping in a mountain meadow canyon for a chuckwagon feast and a live folk band dinner show! We’ll each depart with special souvenirs too!

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 – Keystone to Chamberlain, SD

This morning we’ll enjoy breakfast together before we travel to Bear Country USA. We’ll motor through this wildlife park enjoying the elk, deer, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Plus a stop at “Babyland” is planned to enjoy the bear cubs playing. From here we travel towards the Badlands, making a stop for lunch, and then enjoy the unique beauty of the Badlands National Park. Stops along the way will allow for some great pictures and viewing. Then it’s on to Cedar Shores Resort on the banks of the Missouri River for the evening.
