Day 1 – Home to Dallas, TX

Today we welcome in the Stars & Spurs of Texas as we leave our Minnesota winter wonderland and fly to Dallas. Our home for the next two nights is the wonderful Drury Plaza. We will get to know our fellow travelers during a Welcome Dinner tonight.

Day 2 – Dallas

This morning, we will have a step on guide join us for a city tour of Dallas. We’ll hear stories about John F. Kennedy’s assassination in Dealey Plaza and other interesting, historical stories about Dallas. We’ll visit the Sixth Floor Museum, located within the former Texas School Book Depository building, it chronicles the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. Then we will visit the George W. Bush Presidential Center, a nonpartisan institution advancing the timeless values of freedom, opportunity, accountability, and compassion. While here, we’ll enjoy a box lunch at Courtyard Cafe. Next we’ll travel to Fort Worth to the iconic Fort Worth Stockyards and even get to take part of a cattle drive! Enjoy perusing the boutiques and visiting a restaurant in this historic area. We’ll end our day with Gold Buckle seating at an amazing Rodeo at Cowtown Coliseum! Featuring bull riding, tie down roping, team roping, barrel racing, bronc riding, and breakaway roping, we’re treated to an authentic western cowboy experience! We’ll drive back to Dallas for a great night’s sleep after our full day.

Day 3 – Dallas to Fredericksburg, TX

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll depart for a stop in Waco, TX at the interesting Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, filled with artifacts and history of the Texas Rangers. We then visit the popular Magnolia Market, with time to explore the charming shops and fun food options for lunch on own. Departing, we’ll travel to Texas’ beautiful Hill Country to the small town of Fredericksburg for the night. This is award-winning wine country, so we’ve planned an evening at Texas Wine Collective. As we taste five different signature Texas wines, we’ll hear narration on their behalf. Afterwards, a wonderful Italian buffet will be enjoyed followed by time to explore the lovely vineyard.

Day 4 – Fredericksburg to San Antonio, TX

Breakfast is served at the hotel before we board our coach for another exciting day. First up is the National Museum of the Pacific War. Here the history of the Pacific War will come alive as we walk through the life of Chester Nimitz, the highly respected leader of the Pacific campaign of WWII. Afterwards, we’ll head to downtown Fredericksburg for lunch on own and time for shopping their “Shopping Heaven” as they call it! Our travels continue to the heart of Texas: San Antonio, where we’ll check into the remarkable Drury Plaza Hotel, located right on San Antonio’s Riverwalk! Formerly the Alamo National Bank, our 24-story hotel features 50-foot ceilings, travertine flooring, and stained glass windows! After settling in, partake in the Drury’s Kickback Reception, which is a complete light meal. Tonight we encourage you to walk around the corner from our hotel to “The Saga,” a spectacular light show displayed on the outside of the San Fernando Cathedral. This has been a highlight for many previous R&J travelers!

Day 5 – San Antonio

Enjoy breakfast today at the hotel before we board our coach with a step-on guide for a wonderful tour. First we’ll visit the beautiful Mission San Jose, known as “the Queen of Texas Missions.” Did you know that the Mission’s gristmill, completed in 1794, is the oldest mill in Texas? Next we’ll tour the oldest standing church in Texas, San Fernando Cathedral. Then we’ll take a self-guided walking tour of the iconic Alamo, a 300-year-old Spanish Mission. Lunch is served at the historic Buckhorn Museum, which has been enjoyed by many for more than a century. This iconic place features wildlife from all over the world that have been collected over the decades, including the “78 point buck!” We’ll have some time to explore the museums after we eat. Afterwards, we’ll return to our hotel for a little rest before we board our Go Rio Barge for a cruise down the Rio Grande River and the beautiful River Walk of San Antonio. This will be a narrated cruise that will unveil all there is along the Riverwalk of downtown San Antonio relative to the city’s culture, history, architecture, and timeless charm. Enjoy the Drury’s Kickback and a free evening. Tonight might be the perfect time to visit our hotel’s rooftop where a pool and two whirlpools invite relaxation!

Day 6 – San Antonio

After a leisurely breakfast this morning at the hotel, we will visit the Botanical Gardens of San Antonio, a 38-acre living museum of plants, tranquil escapes, living classrooms, research and conservation. After visiting the gardens, we will have a fantastic lunch at the Chart House Restaurant located in the Tower of the Americas! Enjoy your lunch from a 750 feet high rotating restaurant! The Chart House has the most spectacular look at the Alamo City, giving panoramic views of the sprawling landscape. Return to the hotel for an afternoon on own to explore the Riverwalk. Later, we head out of the city to Knibbe Ranch where the first item on the agenda is a hayride tour of the ranch narrated by the ranch owner himself! The hayride will be followed by an authentic Texas barbecue with cowboy entertainment!

Day 7 – San Antonio to Home

We’ll enjoy our last breakfast in San Antonio and a leisure morning to relax, pack up, or stroll the Riverwalk one last time. As we catch our flight home, we’ll fondly remember all the fun we had in Texas!
