Superior Shores

Day 1 – Home to Bayfield
Our first day on the road, we stop for an early lunch at Norske Nook in Rice Lake, WI – “The Fabulous Pie Place”. What a great start to our journey to the North Country. Our coffee stop later this afternoon is the beautiful Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center for more information on the fascinating places we will be visiting the next few days. Then off to our destination, Bayfield, WI, where we check into our hotel, The Bayfield Inn, right on the shore overlooking Lake Superior. Bayfield is the stopping off point before visiting the Apostle Islands National Lake Shore. After settling into our hotel enjoy the evening on your own to explore the many shops and restaurants of this quaint little village.

Day 2 – Bayfield
Today we tour Bayfield with our local step on guide including a stop at the famous Erickson Orchard & Country Store. We take the Island Ferry to Madeline Island experiencing their laid back lifestyle as we tour the Island and enjoy lunch at the historic Tavern Pub. After a time of shopping we board the ferry back to Bayfield and our hotel. Enjoy a spectacular 5 course dinner at the amazing Old Rittenhouse Inn .. a dinner like no other. You have the rest of the evening to stroll Bayfield or just sit by the water and enjoy the wonderful peace and quiet.

Day 3 – Bayfield to Duluth
After breakfast at the hotel we head to Cornucopia to enjoy this wonderful little village on the south shore of Lake Superior. We will “meet our taste buds” at the Village Inn specializing in fresh (caught that day) Lake Superior Whitefish or Trout and fish chowder. Following lunch and a little time at Cornucopia’s intriguing general store, we journey thru the North Wisconsin woods to Duluth & the North Shore. This afternoon we find ourselves touring the famous 100 year old Glensheen Mansion before checking into our beautiful hotel, The Inn on Lake Superior with each of us having a lakeside room. Walk the streets of Canal Park taking in all the sights before heading back to the hotel and sharing Smores together by the fire overlooking the water. Be looking for one of the big ships entering or departing the harbor.

Day 4 – Duluth
View the sunrise over Lake Superior as we enjoy a scrumptious hot breakfast at our hotel. We then head up the North Shore and visit the famed Split Rock Lighthouse. Watching the movie and touring the Lighthouse will be highlights of the morning. Our lunch is at Splashing Rock Restaurant, once again overlooking beautiful Lake Superior. We’ll stop by Gooseberry Falls before continuing our colorful fall colors journey to Duluth. Tonight we enjoy a great dining experience at Top of the Harbor Restaurant. Our final stop of the day will be the OmniMax Theatre  to view “Mysteries of the Great Lakes”.

Day 5 – Duluth to Home
After breakfast at the hotel we have a chance to be on our own to shop the shops of Canal Park or visit the Railroad Museum. We will board the Vista Fleet for a luncheon cruise of the Duluth Harbor complete with informative narration. Once we arrive back on shore we will head for home with a stop at Tobies Bakery in Hinckley for our last hurrah, enjoying their “melt-in-your-mouth” caramel rolls.  The last of the ride we’ll enjoy visiting with our new traveling friends. Return home early evening.
