Day 2 – Colorado Springs

Enjoy breakfast before we depart for Cañon City. Board the Royal Gorge Railroad for a 24-mile journey beneath Royal Gorge Bridge. This ride will provide some of the most spectacular scenery your eyes will ever see! Lunch will be served aboard the train while we keep our eyes open to glimpse wildlife in their natural habitat. Visit Royal Gorge Park, affording breathtaking views from the highest suspension bridge in the world, rising 1,053 feet above the rapids of the Arkansas River. Ride the Aerial Tram across the gorge and then walk back across the 1929 suspension bridge. After a fabulous day in the Royal Gorge area, we will return to our hotel. This evening enjoy the Drury’s “Kickback,” a complete light meal.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Drury Kickback

Day 3 – Colorado Springs

Depart for Manitou Springs and experience Pikes Peak which forms a stunning backdrop for Colorado Springs and the Garden of the Gods. It is the farthest east of the big peaks in the Rocky Mountain chain, which contributed to its early fame among explorers, pioneers, and immigrants and made it the symbol of the 1859 Gold Rush to Colorado with the slogan, “Pikes Peak or Bust.” Your best views will come from a ride on the Cog Railway to the top. Lunch will be included at the Garden of the God’s Trading Post. Then, visit Garden of the Gods. Featuring red rock formations and breathtaking views of Pikes Peak, it was marked on the National Register for Historic places in 1979. Next we will head to Cave of the Winds Mountain Park. Be sure you have your walking shoes on as we’re going to be stepping down under as we explore this magnificent cave via a guided walking tour! Returning to the hotel, we’ll again enjoy the Drury’s Kickback Reception.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Drury Kickback

Day 4 – Colorado Springs

After breakfast at the hotel, we are treated to a guided tour of the incredible United States Air Force Academy. We’ll thoroughly enjoy their museum, but visiting the Cadet Chapel (if renovations are complete) is sure to be the highlight! Soaring 150 feet toward the Colorado sky, this U.S. National Historic Landmark is the most popular man-made attraction in Colorado. We’ll soon understand why! Next we will head to the 19th century brick buildings along Colorado Avenue, known as Old Colorado City, for lunch and shopping on our own. Afterwards we’ll experience a guided tour of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center. Our tour will begin with a video presentation, followed by a walking tour of the complex. Go Team USA! Arriving back to our hotel, we’ll partake in the Kickback’s tasty spread again.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Drury Kickback

Day 5 – Colorado Springs to Glen Eyrie Estate

Enjoy one last Drury breakfast before we check out and travel to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame & Museum of the American Cowboy. This interesting museum is designed to “preserve the legacy of the cowboy contests, the heritage and culture of those original competitions, and the champions of the past, present, and future.” After lunch on our own, we’ll enjoy the sights as we make our way to the grand Glen Eyrie Estate. Glen Eyrie is an English Tudor-style castle built in 1871 by General William Jackson Palmer the founder of Colorado Springs. Nestled on over 700 breathtaking acres, Glen Eyrie’s stunning beauty and rich spiritual heritage create a place where guests can set aside their troubles and catch their breath. You have all afternoon to explore the first and second floors of the spectacular Castle, visit the Carriage House, stroll the lovely grounds, stop in at the Bookstore & Coffee Shop (of course located in a 150-year-old building full of history and charm!), play a game of cornhole or horseshoes, and relax in a hammock in the fresh air! Our accommodations this evening are located right on Glen Eyrie’s expansive property at the recently renovated Big Horn Lodge. A special chef’s choice buffet dinner is served this evening in the Castle King James Hall.
